Alright, first things first.  I'm not forcing you to change your retarded XP theme, but you should change to something better.  There are many themes that are out there that are highly attractive.  Some of them however, are pretty major.  It's not just about changing a few colors here and there, no - it's about changing icons - the startup screen and other things like that.  However, it's always neat to change up your colors once in a while to your liking, right?  One thing you may be asking is what is this thread about?  Basically, this has helpful links and tips while changing your theme if you decide to.  I can't guarantee your satisfaction however; I will guarantee change.

Applications:

ThemesWell, I can't name every single theme that can be added, it's impossible.  However, I can list the helpful sites that show you how to download themes and even give you themes to pick from.  Some of theme are small color things but some are major improvements to the graphical stand point.  Don't worry though, it's not too hard to manage installing them.  So, if you look below this you can see a few sites that'll guide you and even give you some samples.   Anything with the double dollar sign is premium only.

If you want a direct link to create a Windows 7 effect, you can do so by clicking here.  Note, this is a major update to the graphics on your XP.   You can find others by doing a simple Google search.  As Sate said, you might want to uncheck shell32 if your using service pack 3 while installing this theme as some programs wont work anymore.

However, if you are a fat lazy idiot, then you can always do the easier way.  Instead of downloading things, you can change the overall theme with those themes that came with your edition of XP.  You may have a bit more, but you can get to that screen by right clicking your desktop.  You'll see a screen appear and in the drop down list you can select it.  Once you've found one that suits you, just hit apply and all changes shall be applied.  It's pretty self explanatory eh?

Hope this helped a bit, I guess.  It's small, but ah well.  Looked bigger when I was creating it.

Add something about patching your uxtheme.dll file, because that > themes.
