I told Miggle that I would share this with you guys:
Hi, I'm sure a lot of people from BF2s thought that Trackr's idea of a unified game database was a great idea. The main problem people had was the change from the good forums here to the mediocre forums there.
I've been fairly bored lately and was noticing how unorganized the discussion of BF1943 is, it has 2 threads with general discussion happening in 2 different forums. Somehow this made me think of how cool it would be if we had a unified system, where one thread had links to threads for all games on our forums. I think this would help people get answers to their questions faster and keep duplicate threads from being made.
I made a couple of previews to show what I was thinking of:
The main thread (more games to come), each picture links to a database of threads about that game

This.
My idea for trackr is similar, however new games get released to fast for people to keep track of. So what we should do is base trackr's sub-forums by [i]series, developers and similar games[/s]. When we made the CoD4 section into just the "CoD" section allot more threads about the other CoD games began popping up than there ever where when the other CoD games were confined to the Other Titles section. Likewise with the Valve section, currently on Trackr its just TF2 that people made threads about, however on BF2s there are threads about TF2, L4D, CSS and DoD. We also (in both) have seperate sections for BF2 and BF2142 and no sections for the other BF games. Nothing new has really happened to 2142 and after the finishing of the 1.5 patch nothing new will happen to BF2 either, however tons of new stuff is going on in the BF2 series, with Heroes, 1943, Bad Company 2 and even the distant BF3.
It would also give an excuse to include sub-forums for other series. Grand Theft Auto, Command And Conquer, Fallout, Blizzard games (Diablo + *-Craft games), Star Wars, these are all large series, franchises and Developers that if we were to have a forum dedicated to all sorts of games we would want to give their pwn section. And by giving them their pwn section people feel more inclined to make posts about them. Remember toward the end of last year when SergeRiver was making all these threads about that one game he was really excited for and it reached the point where he was spamming Other Titles with threads about it? Well if there was a section for whatever game he was spamming about, people wouldn't mind because what he was doing was the point of the section.
If you want a really good reason to do this, just look at the kind of threads in the OT sections compared with the other sections in games. In OT we have threads like "Fallout 3 Official Discussion Thread", "The Old Republic" and "[Battlefield 1943] Official Website with Trailer", threads that are general discussions. While in the other sections we have (Crysis) "Sharks", (Call of Duty) "GL Artillery", (Valve) "[TF2] Minor Update 23/6/09" and (BF2) "What is your favorite server". As you can see, the Other Titles section is mostly general discussion threads, while the sections for specific games/series/developers have numerous threads about the finer points of the games.
We don't need to nor want to get rid of the Other Titles section, we need it. However for Trackr to work we need to expand on the number of sections greatly, yet still keep them by series so that way the sections will not go stagnant and require deletion. However more sections = more posts = more activity = better forums.
