Hey all how are ya!???!

I have several questions:

1. Should I play Battlefield 2 or Special Forces? I heard Battlefield 2 original is the one most people play?

2. I don't really understand how unlocking things works, is this right? For example, I play SF, get enuf points to unlock a weapon, and then wherever I go, that unlocked weapon wil always be with me?

3. I noticed so many servers, based on what people say, are ranked. Are there any UNranked server?

4. I tried playing online, but I realized I had to install the patch, which is 1.41 I did, and when I play BF2, on bottom left of screen it still says 1.xxxx-xx I cant remember but for sure its not 1.41.

5. Lastly, I tried creating an account but a message box comes up saying there was an error connecting socket. what??

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I hope you can give me some advice and help! thanks !!
bye = )

1 - Both since they're both fun. You'll get more unlocks if you play SF as well.
2 - Yes, once you unlock a weapon it's saved on your profile
3 - Yes. Playing unranked means that you wont recieve any global points though
4 - I don't think that number says 1.41 even though you're on the right patch so don't worry
5 - Network (router, wifi) issues perhaps?

1. Either. Bf2 has more ppl than SF but having Sf comes with advantages.

2. Yes

3. Yes

4. There's a few updates, get them all.

5. Open your firewalls.

in regards to question number 2... 2nd tier unlocks are only available in regular bf2.  don't freak out when you can't use the L96a1 on some special forces maps, it's only available in vanilla.  dont worry, the stock guns in special forces are more than adequate.  the ak101 is the only gun u need.

SF is more fun (imo). But more people play vanilla, so finding populated servers will be easier.

Thanks all.

So yeah, I guess the only problem is my "socket" thingy....It says there was an eror connecting a socket.

I was hoping I could get help from the experts here

and second, I still have no idea what karma is used for >_<

karma isn't used...it is

or it's just used to effectively tell someone you liked their post or for whatever other reason you want

Something on your computer is blocking BF2 from connecting.

Are you 100% sure that the firewall isn't on?

1 - Play vanilla BF2 1.41, no expansion bullshit
2 - Don't use the unlocks, the standard M16 and Ak101 are perfect.
3 - There are unranked servers, where clans or e-teams play eachother in a private game. Other unranked servers could just be for some fun.

1. BF2 vanilla is where you find the most players, since less people bought the expansion SF and even less bought the booster packs EF and AF.
BTW, while SF acts like a mod/separate game that you have to switch to, you can play the EF and AF maps from within the same BF2 vanilla rotation.

2. There are two tiers of unlocks. For access to the second one, you need to play at least 1 second on a SF map with your account.
Once you've done that, you will get two unlocks whenever you reach a rank that gives you one.
Also, note that you will have to unlock the tier one weapon in a class to get access to the tier two weapon.

3. My wild guess is that a lot of the unranked servers also don't use the Punkbuster anti-cheating system, so they're probably hacked and/or full of cheaters.
Or at least modified to enforce a certain gameplay that could differ from BF2 vanilla and might confuse you.

4. Yes, patch 1.41 is the latest one at the moment.

Install in this order:
BF2 > SF > 1.41 > EF > AF > 1.41

Also, there's an official, new map called Highway Tampa that you can install.

Furthermore, at the moment there is a public v1.50 beta 3 available for testing.
This one contains another new map called Operation Blue Pearl.
Be aware that once you've patched over 1.41 with the beta, you can't (easily) revert anymore without a full re-installation.

5. Are you behind a router? What firewall/anti-virus software do you have installed?

That.
And also to anonymously further discuss the homoeroticism flying arounf on BF2s.

Why don`t you just play both?
In general i like the map designs of the regular BF2 best, but SF is a nice change once in a while.
Get the AF/EF pack too, some cool maps and lots of armour so you can get yer 400 hours for that expert armor badge

I advise you to try out both. Check out the maps and after you got more score then 300 you will be able to check your stats on this site.
Mostly i play SF but sometimes i play Boosters or BF2. I advise you the maps (In SF)called: Ghost Town, Warlord (popular maps anyway).

If you got EF and AF you just start up ypur BF2 and search for map names: Smoke, Taraba, Wall, Midnight, Harvest, Rage this are the 6 booster maps from EF or Af and they are mostly run by a few servers (good if u own both boosters).

At last you will see that most BF2 servers run Karkand without vehicles. Many server runs it infantry only, what is fun also. Try to play other maps like Sharqi, Dalian, Dragon etc. Only because Karkand is the map for the masses just like Harbor in COD: UO

Last thing that stay here and keep on posting in this forum!

Is the OS Vista I presume??

My friend had an issue where he couldn't play, and reinstalling PunkBuster fixed it.

EDIT: delete PunkBuster first, then install from site^^^
