I had no idea that they had come so far in making legged robots walk with such realism. When you think about the amount of processing that's needed for something to walk successfully on real terrain and not just an ultra smooth surface, something like this is quite remarkable. Infact I thought this was fake until I saw the wiki and realised it was a proper DARPA project.
It makes all those other walking robots look like shit. Although I suppose bipedal is a whole different story so you'll have to wait awhile until you get bipedal robots with as much stability as Big Dog.
On the video, look 00:35 in. That's insane how it can handle that sort of abuse! And afterwards it also keeps its footing in Ice!
Amazing stuff! I'd have thought technology like this was a few years off still, if not longer.
