You can't. Well first off I'm pretty sure every song on iTunes is now 256kbps (but that's not retroactive so any songs you bought at 128kbps will stay that way). I mean, ok, you can technically convert it to a higher bitrate AAC but you won't hear any difference in quality.

iTunes downloads are at 256kbps.

Hurricane2k9: Converting a 256kbps file to AAC will not make any difference to audio quality.

Read more properly pl0x. If he took a 128kbps file (and iTunes songs were 128kbps before the switch to full iTunes Plus) and converted it to 256kbps then there wouldn't be any difference in quality.

Oh right. I think I've only bought one or two things of iTunes - I wasn't aware that they used to provide 128kbps.

Can you re-download stuff that you paid for?

I'm not sure. In my experience I don't think so, not unless you email Apple support and other such hoops.

By definition, you can't make songs sound better. If you downloaded it at 128kbps, it won't improve, even if you do convert it to AAC. You need to get some FLAC.

You can't.

Go pirate, they're forcing you to pay for a terrible product that you can get for free elsewhere.

I was always told that iTunes was "the best quality" which probably meant 320kbps

Wait, the iTunes songs aren't even in .mp3?

What's the point of all that shit anyway. You have to use iTunes and then sync it with your iPod or iPhone or all of that shit. Apple just make things so unnecessarily complicated with all their "you have to do it our way" ethos. Fuck that, download the songs. Plug your phone into the USB port. Copy and paste.

I actually kind of like iTunes. It plays my music and it automatically puts it onto my iPhone. Can't ask for much more from that.

I do either download songs or buy CDs though. Digital downloads will only be good when they're 1) decent quality which they kind of are on iTunes, 2) DRM free which they are on iTunes and 3) replaceable, which I'm pretty sure they aren't.

No, it just means you talk to idiots that think the iTunes store is good.

I know way too many Apple tards IRL. There's no way I'll ever be convinced by their arguments and there's no way I'll ever be convinced to go down the route of Apple, even for an iPod. If I didn't know anything about Computers or Gadgets than Apple is the easy option, but once you start to know about things Apple starts to really not make any sense at all. Saying that, I'd still be quite happy if I got an iPod or a iPhone for free. They're not bad things at all, just that they have some stupid typical Apple shit which annoys me

I used to buy songs from iTunes because their store was easy to browse to find new stuff, etc. I really hate their protected format and the hassles of eliminating it. I was also not happy about them raising their prices. I started buying MP3's from Amazon and glad I did. All the recent MP3's I've downloaded from Amazon have been 320kbps.

My Zune was cool until the firmware/whole thing screwed itself, now it refuses to sync/be detected by my computer (or any computer for that matter, including a mac) and charging it is...I don't even know if it'll charge.

I'm done with MP3 players for now...having gone through an iPod and Zune in less then 2 years is pathetic considering they're average life expectancy is 3 or so years (except iPod, considering a new model comes out every 6 months)

In higher bitrate?  Yes, but you need to pay a fee per song you redownload (less than initial price, but when you add it up it's the same as paying for iTunes Plus in the first place).

What the hell are you doing purchasing shitty songs off of iTunes to begin with? From what you say, sounds like a big waste of money for poor quality shit. Get some nice 320kbps stuff, for free.

Thing is if you're listening through shitty laptop speakers or iPod earphones then the difference between 256kbps and 320kbps is nil

I can with the default Sony headphones...

So crisp at 320, less than that and it feels like I'm not hearing everything I should.
