Hey.

For a while my brothers computer(my old rig) has been having this weird problem, as far as I know it's been happening since day one of a fresh install.

Basically, when the computer is turned off through windows, it restarts after about 4 seconds. Always. The only way to turn it off is when it's about to post press the On/Off switch again and then it'll stay off.

I've tried quite a few things to see what the problem is.

So far what I've tried to do.

Checked all parts 1 by 1.
The only thing that could be faulty now is either the GPU or Mobo/CPU. Everything else is working fine.

Rig specs.
Antec 900
P5Q Pro latest BIOS.
E8500@stock
4x1GB OCZ Reaper PC8500
8800GT
Antec Neopower 650 watt, it not the problem either.

No OC's.

And I also tried the PW switch from my Lian Li P80 in case signal or some shit was messing up causing it to restart but it still does it. Same with my 520Hx PSU.

Operating System is
Vista SP2 and W7 Ultimate.

It does the same restart on both of them when shut down, also I tried checking power saving setting and BIOS wake on lan event etc etc and they all have failed to stop this problem.

Can anyone give me guidance as to what could be wrong? Could a GPU really cause such an issue?

To me I got a feeling it's the mobo, but I'm not expert at this and it's the biggest thing to change so I want to try it last. I have a spare mobo I can use P5N-D if need be, but not liking the taught of re-applying paste etc etc.

Karma and mass sexing for help, cause I'm at my wits end over this.

edit: Also, no error codes or anything. It looks normal.

Well I have the 900 as well and when I turn it off I just flick the power switch at the back after the actual computer is turned off since it turns the lights and everything off.  Maybe you could use that, at least as a temporary solution?

I have been doing that too. But I still want to get the problem fixed.

make sure in BIOS ( i think its in BIOS,not remember for sure) is disabled *wake up computer on -->theres 2or 3 options, one is PCI something, second one is LAN something...
so when the LAN cable is plugged in it wakes up the computer...disable it

Already done it, and it didn't work.

I used to have this problem. I think it may have been my old graphics card, but I also think it may have been software...dunno why though. I didnt make any changes to the computer as a whole and it just stopped restarting.
Probably check the wire connections in the case to see if they're dislodged or something.... dunno if it would make a difference if you can turn and maintain a PC on though. And check for viruses. Thats about all I can help.

Have you upgraded the mobo/BIOS or whatnot?
