I will probably end up with either CM 590 or CM 690

The 590 is .1" thinner, is that a big deal? Especially with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835233012

I want to put it on the desk surface, so I think I/O on case roof of 690 might be annoying. Only because I wouldn't be able to see them, not a huge issue, but kind of annoying. I also like the look of the 590 a little better, not a fan of the silver lines on the front or the buttons on the side, as the side  with them will be facing away from me most likely. Also like the top fan holes on roof for either exhaust or intake, probably exhaust though. I know I'm kind of nitpicking, none of my dislikes would keep me from getting 690 though.

fans are on the top of the 690 as well. both are good budget cases, its a matter of preference. I know the 690 has a huge fan base of happy owners.

You can remove the mesh and put them on top or in the case, the mesh goes back on after. I'm pretty sure you can have them on top at least. saves some room in the case.
Check the review here:

The hard drive mounting system sells me on this case over the 590 already, I prefer the looks of the 690 as well.
I would buy one myself if it could fit 3 120mm fans on the roof with my radiator.

I kind of like the look of the 590 better(only slightly), but the 690 has some good features not in the 590.
I like the front I/O on the 590 more than the top mounting on the 690, since it will be on top of a desk.

EDIT: Added Review- http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Cool … 590/1.html

meh... i use the inputs from the mobo, didnt bother to hook up my case ones, and removed them during case modding. If I got the 690, I'd remove its ones too, to fit a third fan up top.

yeah, i read both reviews awhile back when I was thinking about a new case. If I was gonna stay on air cooling, both are a good option.

I want to use my headphones while leaving my speakers plugged in on back of case. I'm not going to mod my case or anything, so I might as well use them. I always use my front I/O for iPod and USB drives for homework and such.

EDIT: would the CM 590 be good enough?
I want to keep my budget down as much as possible, and it is cheap. I was also looking @ CM 690, but people said in reviews it could be hard to reach some cable to the top audio ports and stuff, apparently. I kind of like the look of the 590 better though...
The 590 would be fine.  For airflow it's almost identical to the 690.  For cable length, I have never had any problems in my 690 (same internally as the 590) with any cables.

Cool, I'm probably going to go with the 590 just because of front I/O and the fact that I like the looks of it better.

I may change my mind as I won't be building for a couple of months probably.

that's kind of what i figured, I'm waiting to build until prices go down with new stuff coming out

Do you know when GT 300 series gfx is supposed to come out???

I could probably get either GTX 260 (2 in SLI) then, or GTX 275

not sure, but i think the 5800 series is scheduled for fall, so prob around the same time. If I dont get a card by then I think I'm gonna give ATI a try again.
