Now I'm pretty crap at this game, but practice makes perfect and I am a lot better.

I had an....interesting game tonight. I tried a brief shot of the commanders controls in a single player game to get used to them and nothing else.  Outside of that I haven't had any experience of commander.

I went into a Karkand server, and noticed no one was Commander so I applied expecting to get rejected. I got accepted. My team won. In the process I got promotion, my basic Command badge, my Staff Officer Ribbon, and due to my score doubling to 139 I got the Gold.

I think it helped that the two sides were very evenly matched ensuring a long game, but I did make sure I didn't drop arty on friendly heads.

If you haven't used Voip or some other form of verbal communication (teamspeak, ventrillo) ...
you should.  Voice communication vastly improves what you can do as commander. 
Having a cooperative team doesn't hurt either.

if u can get 139 points commanding, youre obviously playing on a 16 player server with a 64 player map
most commanders r lucky to break 70 after 2x on a 64player server

It was a 32 player server on a 64 player map, not 16.  I'm not too keen on the 16 player servers, they just are too sparsely populated for me.

One of the funniest things I've seen in awhile. Though I do agree with Tushers. I guess that's the CS:S side of me, where any nub with a mic can play distorted techno til you cut yourself.
