I just got xbox live for the first time since I bought 360 over a year ago.
Just have 2 questions regarding 2 games

First is COD4. Is it possible to choose a room to play in? I click on find match, select the game mode I want and it just sends me into a random room which I cannot seem to choose which one I want to go in. Is it always like this?

Secondly is Halo 3. How do I choose a game to play in xbox live? All I get is Campaign, Matchmaking, custom games, forge, and theatre. Where is the option for multiplayer?

I am going to rewrite my question for COD4. The problem is that I cannot seem to get to the lobby to select a server to play on. Instead the game searches for a match closest to something about my character. Is there away to turn it off so that I can get to the lobby and select a game I want?

Nope. It's even worse in Halo 3 where I seem to remember you can't even choose your map or gametype.

Xbox Live is all about removing all control from you . I find it really really restricting/crappy every time I use it. I want to be able to choose where I play but it just throws you in a random game in every game every time.

What are some good games to play on xbox live? I already have COD4 and Halo 3 (obviously). BUt I am going out to rent a game tonight and want to play online as well. Any suggestions?

Pretty sure you can choose gametype in halo.

with both of them, they use a ranking system to match you against people of similar skill. on team games it gets a bit varied, but the premise stays roughly the same.

You'll learn to love it, keeps the game fresh.

and stops you getting badly raped when you first start
