You aren't raining on anyone's parade (at all). I don't think that anyone is saying completely free of oil. The energy requirments for 40+ miles are in plain sight. Weight and space are also known and posted in the specs, so is the mpg/range. The target consumer is not a Taxi or otherwise commercial vehicle. Family commute cars generally put mileage on quicker than other household vehicles. They are used consistently and often. This vehicle is designed to take the place of the "errand car".
You need to understand that this is a significant move towards reducing oil consumption. I'm always skeptical until these thing are tested en masse. This however is a learning phase, albeit overdue. Even if it is the wrong specific direction, the intent is good and it's certainly better than peddling the status quo.
