Any of you guys into Photography & Video?  Ever since I saw the video taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark 2, I have been after one.

Am also looking to get myself a mac to do the editing on, its been a hobby that I have sort of had for years, but never had the cash to back up.  Just curious to see if any of you are more clued up than myself on cameras (SLR's etc), is there anything superior to the canon, in that price range?  Anything new on the horizon, things like that, I can get a good chunk knocked off the price, so be looking to get one shortly.

Cheers

There aren't many DSLR's that do video, so the 5D is probably a pretty good buy, if you want to spend that much. And don't get yourself a Mac you idiot, just get a copy of Lightroom and Premier on PC which will do far more than you need for photo and video editing.

I could get you a good deal on a Sinar 10"x8" camera - might be a bit over the top for you and is certainly not digital.

You really, really don't need a Mac if you're editing photos. If you want to do basic video editing then getting a Mac is overkill. If you want to get really into video editing, get a Mac and FCP - but if you're doing that, then get a proper video camera too.
i played with a Nikon D90 that does video last week and it was so awesome.. the screen was like 3" wide too

the Canon equivalent to the D90 is a T1i, or 500d. both of these are 'prosumer', where i'd call the 5d a 'professional'.
i would go with the Canon 500d, buy lenses, a vidcam, Lightroom & Premier for the price of the 5d.

who am i kidding? i'm lusting after the 5d. the 5d has a full-frame sensor. if you don't know what that means, see above.

Good point, if you don't know shit about cameras, a 2.5k 5D is probably wasted on you. A Nikon D90 on the other hand is a great camera, a good price and shoots video. As Burnzz says, you could get a few good lenses for that, plus Lightroom and Premier legally. DSLR people are gigantic fanboi's, so as I Nikon owner I'll tell you to get the D90, but I'm sure Burnzz will stick with his recommendation of the 500D.

If you reeeeeeally want video too, get the Nikon D90.

If you can live without it, I'd save money and get a second-hand D40 or D80.

And if you're stuck on Canon VS Nikon:
Canon cameras are made by engineers.
Nikon cameras are made by photographers.
