I'm getting Forza 3 and Gran Turismo 5 this Fall/Winter and I need a good driving wheel that can work for both systems. For just one system is fine too, but for both is preferable.

So far I have this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6879212013

But that's about it.

Any suggestions/experience with wheels would be greatly appreciated.

I know the G25 is highly regarded but will it work with the PS3/360?

From what I have seen/heard the only wheels supported by xbox have always been crappy/cheap wheels made ONLY for that console...

From logitech's forums it seems that PS2 supports standard HID controllers, while the xbox does not.

This is an older thread, but googling seems to show the same is still true.
http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/boa … amp;page=1

According to the guy from logitech, not only are they not licensed to be make wheels for the 360, but PC's and PS2/PS3 do the things one way in regards to force feedback and controller inputs, and the 360 does things another (shocker)... leaving PC and PS devices incompatible with the xbox unless it has specifically been designed and licensed to work for both.

The one wheel logitech did make for xbox360 was basically as they put it "An xbox controller shaped as a wheel", that basically hooked the rumble feature to a wheel and sent inputs as a controller.

It really sucks, every xbox wheel I have seen looked like utter shit compared to decent PC wheels.

I wont even give my opinion on the situation, I am sure you can guess it

There is only one option. The Fanatec 911 wheel.

It's quite pricey. About 200 Euros, then about another 50+ Euros for pedals (you can use pedals from the G25 or similar wheels) and another 20-30 Euros for the wireless dongle you need to connect it to the PS3 and PC (only works on 360 out of the box).

The G25 is awesome - but doesn't work with the 360 (and never will, Xbox does not support HID compliant devices and needs an authenticity chip for USB devices - which the G25 does not have). The only good wheel for the 360 is the Fanatec one, the MS one isn't terrible, but it's certainly not good.

If the 360 is not essential then the G25 is perfect. If not the Fanatec is the only one worth getting and will work on all platforms and is very good.

I get really pissed off by the fact the 360 is clearly the best platform for racing games, with the Forza series and Race Pro (finally a SimBin release for console - with a more advanced physics model than is found on the PC versions, apparently) - yet there is a distinct lack of decent wheels for it.

The gearshift looks ugly for that sort of price. Aside from that it's nice.

Well, it's the only one for Xbox (the only alternative to the MS wireless wheel, if you actually want force feedback) and other platforms - and gearsticks are not typically practical in games either, you usually end up using paddle shift in most scenarios.

Personally, I'd forget about Forza 3 (not very happily, since it looks great, like the other Forza games) and just get a G25 for PC and PS3.
