I fractured the lateral condyle on my femur (the outer "nub" on the end of the femur, which is right above the knee), and the piece had to be held in by metal pins. After a few months of being on crutches I could walk on it, but then after the second surgery to remove the hardware I was back on crutches for several months. After healing this second time, the leg started to slowly feel "normal" again, but things like fast kicking motions, or even jumping in the air and then landing, felt pretty awkward after not using the leg for months. 3 years later, and I jog 3-4 miles 4 times a week with only a little stiffness the next day. It honestly takes exercise and usage to get it to feel normal again, and some things will feel awkward after not having done them for months.
