So, apart from the obvious (like "Code it properly"), what would you like to see in 2142?

My personal suggestion would be to make the commander role slightly more tactical - almost to the point of being an RTS. By this I mean that the commander has a certain amount of resource 'points' which he can use on placing strategic assets - like, say, an EMP cloud or whatever - which regenerate at a rate determined by the number of flags the team is currently in control of. The more flags, the faster the regeneration.

You could also add in new classes of player - say a Hacker class. Lightly armoured, fast, armed with a pistol, sub-machine gun and a laptop, the hacker could apply to use a certain number of commander resource points to hack into the enemy commander's assets for a limited time, or temporarily take control of any Mechs in the area, forcing them to turn on their own team - earning the enemy mech pilot a bunch of teamkills and generally messing things up for the enemy.

Obviously each team could only have one Hacker, and you'd have to apply for it (rather like you do the commander position currently).

Anyway, these are just random ideas I've had whilst at work: anyone else got any suggestions?

1. Rename it to BF2042.
2. Cut the mech and Alien(tm) transport crap and give us something closer to a "near-future" game.

2142 looks like a half-assed combination of Mechwarrior and Tribes.
