So lets say I want to install windows 7 RTM on my laptop. Seeing that the manufacturer split the single HDD into 2 partitions (a 50gb C drive that holds the OS and a 270gb D drive which holds my documents, games etc), would I lose my data on the D Partition if I were to do the clean install? I know that my C partition would be wiped clean. I already backed up all valuable files from both drives so it honestly doesnt matter if one or both were wiped. I'm assuming that D would be wiped as well, yes (hence clean install)?

Thanks guys.

If you want to install win7 on C then D will be unaffected.

So if I want to wipe the D partition too, what will I need to do? There is a lot of crap in there.

You can format that drive too if you've backed up everything you want from there, and you could then also merge the two partitions into one if that's what you want.

You will see this when you install:

It's pretty straight forward.

Ahh excellent. I see that I don't have to reformat before installing 7 seeing as it has its own utility.

All OS installs have their own "format" utility.

Like... forever.

If you want to format your drive so that no data can be recovered from it... use gparted.. otherwise, the installs are fine...
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously.
