Jurors in Hillsborough, North Carolina will resume deliberations Friday morning in the murder and assault trial of Alvaro Castillo. Castillo, now 21, is charged with shooting his father, Rafael, 65, several times in the head then driving to his former high school and opening fire on students, injuring two.

Last year at my high school some kid brought a 9mm with a silencer on it, and tried to shoot this gang member. But our cop saw it and tazzed him funny shit.

CapnNismo, the problem is criminals tend to ignore the laws. We already have over 22,000 gun laws in the US. Most criminals who use guns are already prohibited from possessing them. The problem is the laws on the book are rarely enforced. There are thousands of rejected NICS checks (due to criminal history) per year. Hardly any of them are ever investigated.

I'm going to be completely honest here, and perhaps play the devil's advocate a little bit for the implicit glorification of the act that Macbeth is making here in this thread...

If I was completely at my wits end, at rock-bottom of depression and saw no reason to continue living... and if I lived in a country where firearms were legally and easily attainable, such as America, I probably would at least exact some personal revenge before taking myself out. The cliche 'blaze of glory' stuff; you know, go out with a bang, not a simmering puff. I know it's morally abhorrent and everyone should tut-tut and denounce the inhuman and terrible actions of the person, but really you're not dealing with a person in these cases, are you? You're dealing with a walking time-bomb, a person that has come to terms with and accepted the fact that they have a 'sell-by' date and are going to be making an exit sometime very soon. If I was desperate enough to blow my own brains out, I definitely would take the chance to exact some retribution in the process. I'm not being purposefully sensationalist or provocative here... it's just hard to empathize and understand someone that has completely gone beyond snapping point. It must seem pretty easy to kill others when you're so willing to give up on yourself. The Australian Port massacre mentioned above really seems to be the most shocking example of this scenario.
