Processor doesnt mean shit for load times.  ITs all about the RAM.  Even 1.5 gigs is much fast than 1.  My buddy with 2 gigs is a lot faster than me.  ANd my buddy with 3 gigs can cap damn near 4 flags and have coffee before anyone else loads.

It's been said a few times before but I'll repeat it and give some additional information and advice.  The processor doesn't have anything to do with load times.  I have 2 machines, one is a AMD 4000+ with 4 Gigs of cas-2 Corsair RAM, and a Raptor hard drive, the other is a 3Ghz P4 with 2 Gig's of Cas3 RAM and a regular speed hard drive.  (The Raptor is a blazing fast hard drive in case you didn't know)

The slower machine (P4 w/2 gigs) ALWAYS loads slower when my wife and I play.  She's on the slower machine and ALWAYS get into the maps first.  Well, obviously this pissed me off because, well, that's just wrong... so I investigated.  Then I realized I was being stupid...  the faster machine has two 7800GTX's running in SLI and a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum.  Obviously, with this kick ass video and audio horsepower, I am going to crank the video settings to high and the audio to "Ultra High".  Her machine has a regular Sound Blaster 64 and an ATI X850.  So the settings on both video and audio are about medium.  This means the textures that are loading are MUCH smaller and the WAV files (OOG's or whatever) for the audio are MUCH MUCH smaller.  So the load times are going to obviously be much quicker regardless of your processor, RAM, or even hard drive speed.

So if you really want to get in first, turn down your texture settings and your audio quality.  Me?  I love the pretty graphics and crystal clear sounds, so screw it... I'm still there before most people and my wife doesn't like flying choppers anyway.

You all keep saying mine is this and that but y not prove as to all go on a server then see who gets on first

Would putting your drives in RAID 0 increase the load times?

If so which is the better upgrade to reduce load times - raid 0 or faster cpu?

I have a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.6GHz, with 2 x 512mb Kingston Dual channel RAM (though my crappy motherboard doesn't support dual channel ) with a crappy 7200RPM IDE HDD.

Though I will soon have (on Thursday) an AMD Athlon 3200+ 2.0GHz with 2 x 512mb Kingston Dual channel RAM, and 1 x 512mb Kingston non-dual channel, and 1 x 512mb crappy stuff (all 400MHz) totalling 2GB. And an ABit UL8 motherboard.

Although I will still have the same crappy, slow HDD and a slow GPU, but atleast I won't be border-line minimum specs anymore.

Oh and to show you how slow my computer is, the music loads twice for every map.

To the people with 4 Gigs of RAM.  Do you have a OS that supports that much?  I've heard that 1) Windows XP doesnt use that much yet, and 2) BF2 cant use that much.

Its all about the RAM...With 1GB, it look several minutes to get past the verifying client data portion, I added another gig and it literally only takes seconds now.
I'm running a 3gig machine with 2 gigs of DDR2 and its still dog verifying...30 seconds or more

Any ideas??
Make sure Windows didnt ratchet down your drive to PIO mode.

Yes, RAID 0 will increase your access times and load maps faster.  I have a 3800+ w/ 2GB of RAM and just installed two 74GB Raptors (RAID 0).  My loading times are faster.  Of course, after dropping $250... they better be!

I got a tip.

If you got the fast ram be a squad leader so the team/squad can spawn at you on the first flag as you cap it, points all round. (songhau for eg)

Or if it your on Clean Sweep, grab the usa jet fly n bail out over mec airfield (again as squad leader)
Yup, been there, done that.  Also Sharqi, MEC, gunned it to the TV Station and neutralized the flag.

WAW that is som fantastic tip...... if I load faster, I can choose any vehicle I want?    WAW! I didn't know that...................  I always thought RAM, CPU and GPU were useless, I thought every computer was as fast as the next one..........

let us not forget it also involves your internet up/down speeds.  But yeah, before the latest patch I was normally one of the first 3 to get in the server:

DFI NF4 Ultra-D
A64 - 3700+ @ 2.6ghz
1GB Mushkin Redline - 2-2-2-5 @ 260
BFG 7800gtx

I believe XP-64bit supports it, and even XP Pro (32bit) as the max memory supported.  BF2 can't use that much, but it doesn't hurt.  But in all honesty, 2gb is plenty.

You're loading and veryfing the map extremely faster then other players. When you finish the verify things, spawn to the nearest vehicle you want to play. If its a jet.. apc, transport, armor.. ITS YOURS.
if you want to know how "fast" your cpu is, the first second you have the abbility to open the playes tab watch the darken skulls, and kits. The more skulls you see, the faster your loading the map.

that's speaking from a 4 GB,  4GHz horse power
yeah no shit n00b, i came to this post hoping for somehting to speed up my pc, even more that it already is.

if you have a souped up pc and you dont already know this.............kill yourself.

I have an AMD 2700+ with 1.5 gigs of RAM and it still takes forever to load, and just as long on "Verifying client data"... once I timed the game to see how long it took from when I started the game to when my player spawned in the map. It was almost 10 minutes.

That is horribly sad if it takes you 10 minutes to load...

You either extremely crappy RAM, or extremely crappy HDD.

I am in US but I often play Karkand on a New Zealand server, so I will have about twice the ping of those local players. But surprisely, I am always belong to the first a couple of players that spawn out.  But when I play in US servers, I am not.

Does that mean all the players from New Zealand all have crappier PCs????????????????????????

Im mostly one of the first players in the game. And you know why? Because I dont care about graphics, so my Details are set pretty low and I load very fast.. Verifying client data doesnt that long either...
