Howdy,
A while back my grandmother died and among the stuff she left behind was this audio setup:

Sorry I don't have more detailed pictures.

A friend of hers offered my dad a couple hundred dollars for the setup, my dad says the stuff is around 10 years old or so. Is this a fair price?

I don't know anything about it, but it may help if you looked for model-numbers on the products so people have a better idea of what it is.

Someone get Freezer in here.

That stuff looks pretty sweet tho, I'd keep it and use it if it's only going to net you a couple of hundred dollars.

EDIT: Looking at McIntosh's new gear it's fucking expensive (by my standards anyway) but, as you said that stuff is old, but then some people like vintage audio, has a different sound to it, which they'll pay for

http://www.topdjgear.com/crowk2powam.html - crown Amp
http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl? … hannel-Pow - mcintsosh amp
http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?p … 1254718564 - Preamp, looks like they sell 2nd hand for around $800
http://www.audioxsell.com/classified/46 … -DVDCD.htm - Cd/Dvd player

I think the answer is a definite no the couple of hundred. If you don't want it why not just craigslist / ebay?

(btw I am not claiming to know anything, I amjust googling part numbers I can see in the picture)

McIntosh is a legendary audio brand. You should ask how much its worth on audio forums (head.Fi...). Imo the CD player itself is worth couple hundred dollars. Sorry to hear about your granny, looks like she was a real party woman.

I'd go to Audiokarma over headfi for this kind of stuff. Headfi do headphones, AK specializes in vintage.

I'll ask for you if you don't feel like registering. I'm envious.

Remember that value in this kind of stuff is highly dependent on condition. Make sure none of the knobs scratch and that the caps are somewhat new. Even with scratchy pots and bad caps, this stuff is worth a lot.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Dig up the model numbers, they're mandatory for estimating value. All I can say now is that that setup could be worth well over a grand. You lucky bastard.
3 dots mean it was just a suggestion. I got great tips on my 60 year old radio there.

Don't take everything so personally. Sheesh.

I appreciate the offer, but I have convinced my dad to keep the stuff for the family. She lived on the other side of the country (Washington state while we live in NY) so it may be a while before we get the stuff.

She also had these two giant speaker things that looked like cabinets, about 6 feet high each, I will see if I can get a pic of em.

That would mean, for a short time, you'd be in Washington.

That, I can not abide.

This. I'll go get them and take them off your hands if you wish--and you won't even have to pay me! How's that sound?
