Doesnt need a reason why. It's just that much more epic.

hi, irish, how are you?
I've been doing alot of training. Swimming, weights, football ect.
You bruh?
Has anyone tried flying with a gamepad? I have a USB one, may give it a shot
I use a Saitek Aviator, but I'm not exactly "the best pilot evar".
I use an xbox 360 pad to fly its very acccurate for bombing and cannoning, I use xpadder to set up some of the buttons like spotting and some other stuff like views, only problem I find with gamepad is that it can be hard to change views compared to using a joystick or keyboard (or both) I got it so you press the left stick in and it goes fly by view then press it again so it goes into cockpit, and the left d-pad button is rear view, so its hard to go into rear view without taking my thumb off the turn button lol Id say if you can set it up how you like a joypad can be as good as a joystick as its not much differentPubic wrote:

I actually learned to fly in simulators back on Flight Sim 95 using a Microsoft Force Feedback joystick.
I now use a Forcefeedback 2 for everything. (Yes even Helos)
Imo its the best single standing joystick on the market. (It's not spring loaded)

No. Just no : D.tazz. wrote:

Joystick is useless, keyboard + mouse will do just as fine as joystick. There is nothing you can do with joystic that you couldnt do with a mouse + keyboard.
The incredible nuesense of moving your mouse over and over from the up down, up down, is a very valid reason to buy a joystick
Also, in a dogfight, using a mouse is limiting in this fact:

Try flying with mouse and then come back when you know something.. I can turn just as fast with mouse than a nub with keyboard, cause when you lift your mouse your plane keeps turning in that direction for ~1sec so you can just lift your mouse, move it down a little and lower it and then move up again.
I used to use a playstation 2 controller through a USB adapter. Worked quite well once you got used to it. Used to get a jet, then go sit on the couch flying around with my nvidea settings on clone so the game was on my TV. Was pretty funny.Pubic wrote:

Name me one successful competitive pilot who used a joystick for the chopper.Lucien wrote:

agree. i get smacked around pretty good when i come up against the occasional pr0 in a pub server. my stick skills don't stack up against the keyb.Oisín<3 wrote:

I've been using the Top Gun Afterburner with Force Feedback for years now. Ignore the people (RoaringJet[FIN]) who tell you a mouse and keyboard is good enough to fly. Those are the chumps that I blast out of the sky.

Joystick is annoying and really hard at first but if you practice enough it will benefit you more then mouse and keyboard. At this point its pretty pointless trying to learn how to a helo with a joystick. Bf2 will only have very few servers in a year or so...
In my experience, keyboard and mouse is more than enough to do well against most, if not all, dogfights in public and clan servers. Several times I've had people asking me whether I was using a joystick or not. On rare occasions I would face an opposing pilot that does some twisted maneuver that shows s/he's using a joystick though not enough to dominate the fight, just makes the dogfight drag on.
I've used the joystick as well for this game until it broke after several dozen hours in flying. Went back to keyboard and mouse and my performance remained steady.
In essence, don't bother buying a joystick for this game unless you're in some kind of competition that your enjoyment, pride, and life depends on or you think spending $20 just to get that extra few milliseconds of maintaining a maneuver is worth it.
That, or if your keyboard and mouse is so far apart that you cannot switch your right hand from one peripheral to the other in less than .5 seconds.

Fin_jet, wont say that k+m sucks, but i dont think i am very wrong with saying that out of the top20 pilots perhaps 1-2 use k+m.
True but since you refer to top 20 (no offence) but how do we know whos in it anymore since so many starts and stops flying im only certain that zeqtr is best and after ?? but you are right there hasent been many good mouse pilots.zeddius wrote:

Judging from when I first started playing competitive 1v1/conquest, the top 20 always used joysticks, perhaps 1 or 2 excluded (flyjetandkill, hgjw).Fin_jet wrote:

Star-3, Me and hgjw use mouse+kb I think all of us uses mx518 aswell but to the topic the best to fly with after some training is a XBOX360-controller no doubt after that mouse+kb ~~~~
Who is this Irishpride you speak of?Oisín<3 wrote:

Sometimes I ask myself this question since I've read many times that this "Irishpride" will/have quit this game..Sup wrote:
