Although all of a sudden it's started working again... In any case, if anyone knows why this might be happening do tell, because it will probably happen again; it did it a few days ago as well but I forgot about it and it started working again.

When it happens again try opening notepad and testing it. .. if you haven't already.
Then do the standard disable addon's themes .. yada yada.

I remember it happening to me once. I opened the windows clipboard and it had some unidentifiable charachters in it. I deleted it and it started working right away.
You can open the clipboard by typing "clipbrd" in Start->Run

Try disabling each plug-in/extension in succession and then copy+paste the next time that happens.
You might have a clash of commands from one of your plugins which thinks you're trying to do something else.
eg. there are some extensions which take copied text and place it in a text document for you.

It would be good to run sysinternals tools when this happens, to see what might be failing.
