Right, so my little crappy first car is starting to prove troublesome.

I have no experience or knowledge of any car mechanics, so forgive me if my descriptions are a bit shit.

Basically, the engine is really, really loud, but not on idle. It only gets really, really, monster-like loud when I push the gas down past a certain point (Waaay before half way). Also, if I do push it past here, a smell starts to get around. This has brought a noticeable speed decrease, meaning I can hardly get up fucking hills, going between 10-20mph.

I've checked oil levels, and the first time I checked it, it was pretty damn low, but I've filled it up between the min and max mark with the right oil (5W30), and I've checked the engine coolant levels.

The car is a Ford Fiesta 1997 R Reg, 1.3 litre engine, red.

The reason I ask BF2s is because I have no fucking money to spend on asking a desperate mechanic what's up and I don't know anyone who won't rip me off.

I had some guy take a quick look, and he said that there's air getting in somewhere when the engine revs, as it makes a hissing noise when it revved, but he couldn't find where. My dad says he'll rip me off, so I can't ask him again really, lol.

Anyone have any idea of what this could be and what I'm looking at? Could the lack of oil have fucked my engine up? Is it just this hole somewhere in the engine that's fucking me about?

Get your dad to have a look at it, or go and join a fiesta forum, gamer =/= mechanics.

Maybe a vacuum leak? Good luck finding it though.

Check your air filter, should be in a square shaped box under the bonnet will have larger pipes coming from it, also check the connections to all the pipes.

Second is your exhaust, get under the car and check for rust or holes.

Other than that a mechanic is your best friend.

Sometimes when I start the car, a lot of fumes come out the exhaust, but only on a start.

cause the engine will increase in rpm, but the clutch is so old that it will slip around without transferring the motion to the gearbox.

That shouldn't be a problem but you might take it check anyway. When is the car due for technical?

Happens on older cars when the engine is cold.

At least, it often happens on my car. Though I do have a manual choke ...

Oh and also you might have borked your oxyden sensor. These bitches cause the engine to get too much gas when broken and that makes it act weird. The "lots of fumes" part matches dead on. Might want to check yours.

This thing doesn't usually break but I've replaced it in my car just lately

Symptoms of a failing oxygen sensor includes:

    * Sensor Light on dash indicates problem
    * Increased tailpipe emissions
    * Increased fuel consumption
    * Hesitation on acceleration
    * Stalling
    * Rough idling

Be careful when approaching car forums, they tend to be very hostile to new members who only join for help. Good luck

It may be a vacuum leak.  The easiest way to find them is to get starter fluid and spray it around vacuum hose, intake manifold, etc.  If there is a vacuum leak, the engine will rev up because of the starter fluid sucked into the system.

What it sounds like to me. They can be a bitch to find. I have seen this trick not work but it is a good start.
