Va. SPCA exec's dog dies after 4 hours in hot car AP
posted: 5 HOURS 25 MINUTES AGOcomments: 3PRINT|E-MAILMOREText SizeAAARICHMOND, Va. -An executive for an anti-animal cruelty group says her 16-year-old blind and deaf dog died after she accidentally left him in her hot car for four hours.
Robin Starr, the CEO of the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says she didn't realize "Louie" was in the car until noon. Starr's husband, Ed, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch he put the dog in her car as she got ready for work Aug. 19. She often took the dog to work with her.
Robin Starr took the dog to two clinics, but he died of kidney failure.
The National Weather Service says the temperature had reached 91 degrees by noon that day.
The board of the SPCA says it still supports Starr, who has been CEO since 1997 and does not plan to resign. It was unclear whether she would be charged.

Ummm...watching this one.  Could be interesting.

I don't know much about the SPCA, but if they're anything like PETA, if this had happened to anyone else, their home would've been vandalized and set on fire. But since it's one of their own, seems like they're willing to let it slide. Hypocrites as always.

Nothing like PETA, PETA is a radical group if I may say so.  The SPCA generally sticks to fighting against things like dog fightning and taking care of abandoned dogs.

SPCA isn't like PETA. They are like animal cops. They arrest people for animal cruelty and such.

PETA just whines about it.

I would bet she will be charged, but most likely it will be knocked down to probation as she has saved more pets than anyone else.

I'm okay with that.  But there's probably no way she can continue at her post.

Poor dog - blind & deaf dog too.

The dog was 16 years old, it was on borrowed time anyways...

a callous outlook TopHat, even if true. the local SPCA head should be aware of an animal with 'special needs' in her care. i feel badly, for all involved - no malice, just mindlessness. for an animal that probly loved her more than itself . . .

16 years old, blind, deaf and dies of kidney failure. Sad that the dog was left in the car, yes. But she was obviously looking after a very sad case of an old age dog anyway.

It's difficult to understand how this took place; wouldn't this women be closely monitoring a dog with a limited senses, and not just mindlessly leaving it in her car?  I feel particularly bad that the dog had to die this way, but considering it's age, what other options where available for this dog?  It was going to go soon eventually, it's just unfortunate that carelessness was the reason.
