One of the vlogs I watch occasionally, the guy went to (I think) the same one you went to.

I like Green Day. I mean they kind of lost me when they went political with American Idiot but the music was still okay, (the radio repeating it ad nauseum was not.) I don't think to put them in the same league as Floyd, Carpenters and Zeppelin is giving them too much credit, you've got to put it in the context of different time periods. In terms of lastability Green Day will last far better than all the shitty metal groups that a lot of Internet patrons seem to think is "good" music, I can fully see Green Day being looked back on as the Led Zepelin of this era. And deservedly too. Okay the peddling to the Emo crowd and annoying political rants get a bit tedious but it's still good music.

I think it's far too early (even in their own careers) to qualify Green Day in any way or on any level with the likes of Led Zep.

Hell, people could say the same thing about acts like At The Drive-In, or Blink 182, or something horrid like Slipknot or Trivium. All enjoy relatively large amounts of success in their respecting (sub)-genres. Green Day do the faux-punk mainstream rock-anthem thing pretty well, but it's pretty hard to call out in the present that which futurity will regard fondly about the past.
