Scratch Case build.

So I have been turning it over in my head for awhile now, whether or not I want to mod an nice case, or build one from scratch. The idea has always been appealing to me.
The other day I was checking out bit-tech.net and came across alot of sketchup cases and decided to try my hand at it. If all goes well, I am going to try to build the case I design.

So far I have come up with the case body and face plate, some pics in a sec. the 3 fan grills on the front, I want to replace with 1x120mm and 2x120mm rad grills.

Gonna try to design the internal frameword and back plate today.

nice curves, maybe try that radius on the front panel, humm? lik a nice rounded box or square pill...
wat materials are you going to make that with? aluminum, amirit?

had to start over, my measurments were off for EATX boards. having a bit of trouble keeping the case feet one color while changing the rest.

Some experience. and all the tools I need are available. may have to pick up a new tap set for threading. Leaving lots and lots of time for trial and error too.

I think the problem with curving the front panel is the new curved corner it would create, I kinda want it flat so it has symmetry with the back panel as well.

So I re-did a bunch of measurements and the new design is 2cm longer and about 12 cm taller.
Also, I added case feet and a intake hole for the PSU. The case feet will actually be silver, but I cant get them back to the that.

lol may as well make it from gold with the price that would be. I'm a big fan of Andonized aluminum, so thats gonna probably be it. Or powder coated aluminum.

Instead of having an intake for the PSU, why not install the PSU upside down? You get better airflow.

Yes, it exhausts it on the side where you plug in the electrical cable.

Ok, but still, why have the PSU's intake facing inside the case? The PSU by default uses its own airflow system in cases where it's placed at the bottom (Intake from the bottom, exhaust out the back). Why would he want the intake "in-taking" air from inside the case?

My PSU sucks air from inside my case and exhausts it outside...? I think we're confusing each other.

Surely it's better for the PSU to suck air from outside the case and exhaust it out again?

A PSU puts out a lot of ambient heat, if I cool it with external air, it will stay cooler and put less heat into the case itself.
The HDDs will also go in the bottom cabinet, I have thought of using the PSU to exhaust their heat, but am trying to think of another method first.

Its not going to be quiet with all those holes tho. Good luck! alu can resonade easily so maybe put some bitumen mat inside to add weight?

Why not mount the PSU on the outside of the cabinet? ... you can still case it in the original design but keep it separate from the other parts ...

still lots of planning to do, all the fans will prob be mounted with rubber for dampeing. lots and lots of planning to do. the framework is proving to be a pain to design.... I have to re think it a bit.

i assume the mesh on the top is for a water cooling rad?

i would look into the 90 degree mobo design on the silverstone raven and fortress models...really ingenious if you ask me.

yeah a rad up top and one on the front. the one on the front would come later on though. Havent really considered putting the mobo like in the Raven. I would have to re think the who WC solution for that, and build a cover for all the cables
