*shudders
It would be a mix between a musky cologne and a flowery perfume.

Depends on whether you want to get her something heavily scented (i.e. for occasions) or something casual-daily, or something sporty...
Teehee, Wang.

You don't understand girls do you?
If she was worth the effort I'd take her into the store and say you can have anything in here that you want.

But that if should be underlined, bold and very big. So I've adjusted accordingly.
You've never actually met a girl before, have you?

No, I don't need an attitude adjustment. You just need to fuck off.

I sure hope he is, because if he isn't and she isn't family either he formally isn't even allowed to give her perfume, unless it is his intention to make a fool out of himself and embarrass the lady in question. Perfume you can only gift to the most intimate of friends.

AussieReaper wrote:

Get her the *insert female singer here* fragrance
Do NOT do this, unless you know the girl in question has a fetish for the respective female singer. Otherwise it generally just testifies of poor taste an cheapassness.

Perfume's a difficult one because it's pretty personal. Unfortunately with giving perfume you've either got to know EXACTLY what she likes or fork out for the most expensive you can find.

Chanel's a safe bet - mush moreso than "au de [insert celebrity here]" and from what I've heard Elizabeth Arden seems to be aimed at a more mid-30s+ age group. I wouldn't think it matters but try telling that to a girl.
But, uh, as your budget is $60 I don't think that you're going to find a fairly priced Chanel. I dunno, see what you can find. It's been a long time since I've had to buy perfume.
Ty is pretty much right, no one on this forum or any other will be able to tell you which perfume to get, because it is such a personal gift. Perfume has to match the wearer. You don't have to know "EXACTLY what she likes" though; if you know her well enough, her personality and/or perferably her natural scent, but also the way her house smells and how she uses perfume (the right way or the wrong way, the latter usually being her spraying it in copious amounts as if it were pesticide, Versaille style), you can figure out which perfume suits her best herself. You'll have to test a number of samples in the shop though and if your aromatic receptors have been bludgeoned to death, e.g. by regular smoking, or you just have a n00b nose, this might be a little tricky.

If she's the right kind of girl even a age 30+ perfume can suit her, as it is more about class than about age. If you get her a few millilitres of Clive Christian No. 1 though, you'll always be dead on regardless of matching personality and scent, simply because of the pure awesomeness. Other than that, yes, Chanel No. 5 would be your best bet. It is a classy perfume and quite "adaptive". It is not overly pungent and it's soft tones will easily match a wide variety of people. However, you're still looking at one of the most expensive mainstream perfumes.

In any case, whatever you do, MAKE SURE you're buying eau de parfum and not eau de toilette, as the latter is the cheaper water based variant and technically not even perfume. Most brands create both of each variant of "perfume" in the broader sense.

Lai ya loopy man, yeah its personal but you can give perfum to a chick your not already knobbing with the intention of knobbing.  If your eatin a fishy dinner and you smell your gift them you know she's a keeper.

Well yes I guess so, but your intentions will be quite evident. Of course that doesn't have to be a problem at all, but he should realise that's he's giving a certain quite strong message. He might as well buy her a ring or a bouquet of roses (in fact I think perfume is "worse"). If she's just some friend, even if he has the intention of knobbing her, it might get a little awkward in front of the casual birthday crowd.

Edit:
Vub wrote:It's our anniversary, so it's meant to be a surprise Don. I'll try Carolina, how is it priced?Missed that somehow. In that case, do it! And you should have failry little problem with knowing her.

Like I said before, this is not Versailles, you don't spray perfume to cover up the untaken showers. As such a perfume should always complement the lady's natural appearance, not mask it or break with it. You don't want to smell the perfume and then the girl (or not even the girl), you don't even want to smell a perfumed girl, you just want to smell the girl. The next time you smell her scent, perfume can only be missed, not noticed.
