@ zeek: it's cheap. I don't have money, and im not about to start wearing polos around campus. I think clothing style is much different that austin and wherever you are. You can go into a restaraunt and order a $40 steak in a tshirt, shorts, and flipflops. It's a cultural thing espeically in austin. You're not "unique" here, because it's Austin. Possibly one of the oddest cities with the most diverse population.

yeah well bennis, i make more babies than you

wotcha gun do, fight about it?

@bevo: no worries mate my comments werent aimed at you. there's a stereotype of british, middle-class hipsters here that shop from charity stores because they like to seem 'indie' and vintage-cool. they'd be buying vintage-faded and old-styled clothes off the high-street shelves for 100x the price if they could. bullshit.

Lols, wearing overpriced clothing is New Haven is essentially an easy of saying "Hey, look at me, I go to Yale."

in america it's kind of different because your version of the bourgeoisie middle-class aspiring american comes across to us brits as a contrived and tacky anglophile. all of your ivy league schools are proof, they basically model themselves on private british institutions, only minus the actual class and character part. sure they have prestige but it's a typically-american prestige in that it's created artificially by money. i really wouldn't be able to take some well-dressed preppy american student seriously. im sure their gated suburbs are rinsed with fine sophistication and mock-british culture.

Actually that old peoples home song was one of the only bits I saw, but who was that strange man next to Ulrika? He seemed pretty cool.

Lel, as someone coming from a a non-gated suburb and public school, I kind of agree with you about the second part. Of course, since Britain invented arrogance, it likewise kind of makes sense.

And yes, Ivy League schools basically got prestigious through money, but only because they did useful academic things with the money, and have the most history.

he's in every episode now. he has a greek name, cant remember what. he plays like a dunce-character with the odd occasional moment of brilliance. i think they're trying to forge and launch the career of another comedian, like they did the first time around with georgie daws -> matt lucas -> little britain.

@nuk: yep, we invented class-arrogance and it's something you grubby consumerist fucks cannot imitate! i've heard that the faculty in harvard/yale all wear tweed jackets and basically dress as if they're 70 year old cambridge dons, and there are tons of private societies and drinking/dining groups that essentially try to play up to upper-class british sensibilities. i guess im the opposite of you when it comes to educational background, but i find it equally risible because it just seems so tacky and embarrassing for them. poor americans havent figured out you cant buy class.
