O hai guise! G'mornin!

I'm finally (prolly today it'll be ready for pickup) getting a new desktop PC at work (I upgraded my work laptop a half year ago), and I'll be getting rid of that nonsense called Win2000. inb4win2000lol. It was installed when I started the job back in '05. I was mad as fuck, but in no position to whine. Now I can.

I need my emails from the last 4 years of my career at the company to be moved to the new rig (approx. 4000 received, 2500 sent). Now I can back up my emails as single files onto a removable drive, no worries, but how do I get those files into Windows Mail so that I'll have everything available?

And what about the address book?

I haven't tried anything out yet (since I don't even have the new rig yet), but I thought I'd pre-emptively write so that I'll have the necessary hints and tips before I begin.

Thanks in advance! I'd better drink my morning coffee and get to the office now to do the backups of all files to an external HDD.

P.S: Yes, I could have some techs at various stores do this for me but I'll be damned if I'll let them touch four years of confidential information (Actual, not porn).

erm.... i'd check out windows mail... like the import functions (import ->CSV or something) and match it up with an export function (export ->CSV)....
at least for the contacts, anyway.

although, this is microsoft... i've had Microsoft exported files not read properly when imported BACK INTO another Microsoft product....

Might've been Outlook (Machine 1) -> Outlook (Machine 2)....

I've got the contacts (CSV) and mail files (.dbx) exported and backed up now to and external HDD. Should be getting my new rig within hours.

I've read a few how-to's and apparently I shouldn't have a problem. I've got the feeling that I will anyway, hence the topic.

It's pretty straight forward. I've never had a problem with it.

Fantastic. Thought I'd check before something happens, if something should happen.

Acronis will back up and move all of your emails and settings.

I'm about to try a program called PC mover. It is supposed to move EVERYTHING from your old machine to the new. Programs, setting, email, licenses... etc.

It's going to take awhile to do though.. I keep putting it off.

'tis done. Pretty awesome that within an hour of the receival of my new PC, I'm 100% connected and have all the information I need at my disposal to continue with my workday.

Still some plugins, codecs and programs to install, but that's always the case and I'll deal with them as the need for them pop up. As long as I've got all my emails + Spotify and Firefox, I'm good with this PC. I'll move the rest of the data when I can be arsed.
