^^ Amazing colors, did you color enhance them? ... if so I would have cropped out the yellow flower in the top picture first ...
Only things I had to play with was brightness and contrast. Yeah, taking out that yellow one might have been a good idea...

posted three to my photostream.
HDR, straight out of camera. 3 distinct and different parts of Utah, and yet all were on the northern Colorado River Plateau.

has anyone else dabbled with HDR? do you see any differance, vs. a normal capture? i feel HDR is one technique amongst many.

HDR is often overdone. The difference is usually very noticeable in the Shadows/Highlights. I'll use it sometimes to bring out detail. IMo it should be used just as a compliment. It's gotten fairly easy to do with programs like photomatix. It used to be you had to actually bracket your shots. Now you don't.

i did bracket - +2, 0, -2.
i ran it through photomatix ( the full version, lord know's i got enuf jpegs on my HDD with "hdrsoft" plastered on 'em).

the thing i see about HDR (as done technically, vs. artistically) is it brings out the contrast differances, ala 'high contrast'.

Using your pic for example..

Original

This was with a simple shadow/highlight filter in PS and a highpass overlay blended with soft light.

The colors may be off, I'm on my laptop right now. But you get the idea.

i like it - the differance is i grabbed three exposures, vs one, used photomatix, vs. PS, and didn't quite get the highlights - i am studying the episode right now.

i know, technically, that you need the extra exposures - i hadn't known what they bring to the table tho.
if the light values can be coaxed outta PS, then the + & - values are superfluous. the eye is mightier than the beholder!
imma just getting my feet wet with the tools in PS, thx for sharing.

I really need a better camera. All the Jpeg's that I've worked with in Photomatix and that faking an HDR in PS have all turned out grainy I'd like to see how much of a difference RAW format would make.

Can you change your ISO on your camera?.. turn it down and it will help. Especially in low light situations.

lol, it seemed they were 'hamming' for the camera almost every chance. they are attractive, and they looked like they were having fun.

i had to comment on the b/w constrictor? snake, anyways. how did you finish that? desaturate it, shoot it b/w in camera, the detail was preserved (and even highlighted) and the image was captivating.

I used a preset in lightroom.. "Simply Black and White".. then I did black/fill adjustments to fine tune it.

You can download the set of presets from here - http://mcgstudios.ca/presets.html - under the "Classic series"
