Well, wish I could help you out more.

I guess you have to put things in perspective. Do you REALLY need a quad-core? Will you be utilizing the power of one? Do you want your computer to be some what "Future Prove"? If the answer to any of these questions is yes then, well...Quad core it is!

Hell, I'm still on a single core AMD and it runs smooth and fast for what I do. So, honestly I can't give you an opinion on whether or not quad-core is THAT much better then dual-core or vice versa.

Good luck.

Such as???

If it's only like we browser and stuff, a Dual Core would probably be good enough, but a Quad would be better I imagine.

Is there a MicroCenter near you?

Take a look at that list of stores and see. If so, you may find the i7 is more affordable than you think. I wouldn't recommend an Core2 processor if you want to be able to upgrade without replacing most of your computer later on.

That motherboard + quad = fail

If you are going to play the upcoming games, I recommend quad. But that motherboard is jsut absolutely horrible for a quad. Might just barely work at stock tho.

e: but really if you are getting a S775 quad, its better be Q9550. Don't waste your money on the Q8xxx's.

If I were you, I would save up a bit more and wait for some price drops on the i5 750 or Phenom II X4s and do a proper build at once, not upgrade dying socket.
