I think I'll skip Vista and go straight from XP to 7.

Vista on my parent's PC has been remarkably disappointing, from the general slowness on a brand new, reasonable spec PC to bizarre user account problems.

Third party support was shit.
'Congratulations on buying a Dell PC! Enclosed is your new wireless adaptor - which has no Vista driver. Suggest downloading one from the internet if its been written yet - which you can't do since you don't have a working wireless adaptor - enjoy!'

Also never seen a windows update bomb before.

Will take the decision if and when BF3 comes out and which platform it requires.

I certainly don't love Vista. Never had any driver issues you speak of. But all sorts of programs crashed or become unresponsive at least twice a day. Really don't see why anyone would still use Vista since Windows 7 is superior in every possible way and free till March 2010.

I would be on W7 if I could find which link from the thousands there are is the correct one, and if they fixed the punkbuster error.

BF2 works fine in Win7 if that's what you're asking. In regard to finding the latest install you're on your own. If a 12 year old kid I know was able to find it so can you. Or not...

I've got the first beta on a HDD, it actually still works and all, but Punkbuster doesn't work with it so meh.

INSTALLING

To install Windows Tiny7 from this CD, set your PC
up so it will boot from the CD-ROM in the PC's BIOS.

There is no upgrade option available in Tiny7, because the option
is removed.

Only install Tiny7 onto a freshly formatted partition or hard disk.

You do not need any product key in this release - the installation
of Tiny7 is unattended, apart from in the very beginning where you
choose which drive or partition to install to.

All installations are set to US English. If you do not want the US
keyboard settings, you will have to change this in Windows when it
has installed (as opposed to choosing it at install time), its easy
enough, just open the "Keyboard Settings" folder in the desktop
eXPerience folder and read the included ReadMe.txt that is there.

Well yes, I've used 7 since about March and it's a lot better. But that's not to say Vista was bad once they'd sorted most of the bugs out. Driver issues were just being a pain the ass to install. When did you use Vista though? Either you're hugely exaggerating, or you were using an unpatched version. Believe me, I wouldn't say I liked the OS if things crashed twice a day.

Yeah, sure, iTunes has all the iPod integrated shit and the Store, and Genius and Cover Flow, but they are just extras. Media Player is fast, responsive and very very easy to use.

Pre SP and SP1. They were promising so much to be fixed with the release of SP1 and I was so disappointed that I never gave the SP2 a try. Hugely exaggerating would mean I'm lying which I'm not. It seems Vista works good for some and bad for others. Vista SP1 was even worse than pre service pack Vista for me. Never got BF2 to work in Business edition, lots of people have same issue with Vista Business.

it's still significantly slower than itunes is on osx (snow leopard), and crashes with all sorts of stupid plug-in problems, and periodically goes unresponsive or bugs out in a multitude of ways. i've lost count of the times ive 'closed' wmp, only to carry on hearing my music in the background because the wmp.exe process refuses to die. have never had a single problem with itunes on osx, ever. it's just that general feeling of stability and rapidity that gives the user a feel of a better experience.

You must be on Vista as in XP I haven't encountered a problem with WMP in the past 3 years. Used it for ripping audio only though.
