They could've done it better in my eyes. In the US the big deal is that it's not the same price as the Xbox. But in the UK it's still £50 more. What's the point?

Launch a big hot heavy console too early and then release the one they should have released origionally years later, and then they will chart up the specs against the Xbox 360. Well, if the 360 was released in a slim version with better hardware, better cooling etc etc then the numbers wouldn't look so fucking impressive.

Well they do it as it costs them less to produce than a bigger version and they can ship more for teh same price. Also they can now "afford" to give the price cut as its cheaper to produce.
It was a much needed boost for Sony.
However, they're still significantly in 3rd place and I don't forsee that changing for this generation.

And success is generally based against something. The fat PS2 was selling quite well before it went slim, compared to the fat PS3 and the slim PS3. Therefore one could say that the slim PS3 is a bigger success than the slim PS2, when comparing it. That's what they mean by successful relaunch.

In terms of a whole new system though, I think you're right, Sony's pretty much competing against themselves.
Personally I never cared for any of this. I mean I already have my console for my own reasons, why would I care who else is getting one or how many they're selling. If anything I don't want the 14 year old tards coming onto the PSN, there's enough already

Mine is being shipped right now. I've always been a PlayStaion fan boy; before that it was Sega.
To be honest, the only reason this is the "most successful" re-launch is because the first launch was shitty as hell. Now they can say sales are up 76,000% or whatever, but it's relative.
Oh well, good for them thought. I've yet to buy a PS3, and this was exactly what I was waiting for.
