Generally, the ones in white are the servers you recently played on and the ones in green are your favorites. If your favorites list disappears, you can try re-starting the game to get your list back.

Yeah, clicking refresh has always done that, just like clicking 'join now' will hang the game

As Guardian said, the green names are favourites, white names are servers you recently played on, red names are offline obviously.

As .soop said, a long favourites list will increase your login time, as the game requests server info for all those on the list when you login.
If you want an easier way to clear/organise your favourites list, go to my documents/battlefield 2/profiles/0001/general.con and open that file in notepad...there's a list of server names at the bottom, that's your favourites/server history; delete the appropriate lines to clear unnecessary entries and get a quicker login to BF2

If you set that file to read-only, the game can't write new favorites, thus you keep the same, fast login time.

Thanks guys. I'll keep this in mind and probably try it out (read only).

This leads me to another question, so yes, I'll hijack my own thread here:

My computer (so did my old one actually) loads maps quickly, but the "Verifying Client Data" phase takes longer than the map load itself. Are there any tweaks that can be done to speed this up?

Also, BF2 loads quicker if you disable all the videos...

Don't change servers. First time I join it verifies for about 30 seconds, every map change from then on takes about 5 seconds.

Also, the more RAM you have, things tend to move faster...

Which can be done by adding +restart 1 to the shortcut

Why should this be fucking around or hacking?
It's a quite normal command line parameter that the developers and QA testers most likely used extensively during production to not have to view the videos all the time.

Everytime I do a re-install, I edit my shortcuts anyway to auto-login, so adding the +restart 1 parameter is a matter of seconds.
For the SF shortcut it's a matter of copy&paste.

Besides, it'll probably take you longer to browse to your BF2 installation folder to delete the videos.
