I tried doing a search and found nothing.  Sorry if this turns out to be a repost.

I find BF2 only allowing chat between squad mates and between commander and squad leaders limiting.  This is especially true when a Commander is not doing his job of coordinating the squads.

Is there an easy way to allow chat or VOIP between your whole team or at least selected players?  This way we coordinate movements even if we are in different squads.

I am sure someone is already doing this.  Can you show me the secret handshake?

in game VOIP is restricted to within the squad, only when you are alive and a round is active

So I have "TEAMSPEAK" and VOIP as you mention above.  OK, I play the game a lot, but do not know that I can communicate via voice any other way than the "b" for speaking to the squad and "v" for speaking to the commander.  I want to be able to speak with all my team mates regardless of squad.

Are the two other things you mention here different than that?  If so, where can I read more about it?

You can talk even though you are dead, just doesn't show the icon.

Growler, If im right. Say for eg if you are in a public ea 64 and it is full. You would need all 32 of your (for eg) MEC team to be on the same TS channel (TS= teamspeak).

You might have more joy if you were in a private clan server as the clan team would be on the same channel, wether or not they'd allow you to use it is anonther thing.

Failing that, theres always the "k" button. Which wouldnt sort the problem out really.

There is a reason why you cannot speak to everybody ingame over voice. Actually, there are three.

One: NOBODY FUCKING USES VOICE ANYWAYS. half the time, when you ask if they can hear you, they dont even respond. even when you type it out in little green letters. no response. not so much as a PgUp or PgDn. when you ask somebody that joins the squad? no response. when you tell them, your hair is on fire and that martians are at your door? no response.

Two: Because on the *extremely* rare occasion that you do join a squad with voice, sometimes you step on each others broadcasts, and thats with only 6 members. Imagine an entire team trying to communicate? Itd be hard to tell if they guy saying "armor! behind you!" is your buddy, or across the map, assuming nobody else was talking at that moment in time.

Three: Chain of Command! Yes! this game actually has a theoretical chain of command! in all reality, nobody ever uses it because they are all too busy trying to get their own damn points. teamplay my ass, i want my vet armor badge! If the chain of command were to actually be used, then the commander, in his nigh infinite knowledge of the battlefield, would assign commands to his squad leaders; the squad leaders would in turn relay these commands to the troops. troops talk to troops and their squad leader, squad leaders talk to their troops and the commander. in a perfect world, it works wonderfully. if only they accounted for the average smack-tard when they coded BF2...

more points = less communication

I don't bother using VoIP, because usually my squad is full of people that I'm on TS with, so VoIP is pointless.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

The server I play on uses VOIP "B" key extensively.   Our "squad" has grown to more like the size of 2 squads (12 players).  We all want to be on the same squad so we can talk to one another for coordination.

Based on what I am reading here TeamSpeak may be the answer.

I downloaded Teamspeak.  Does TeamSpeak have to be installed and enabled on the server we play on in order to use it?

when me and my mates are on we use voip in game and it works well - obbviously bc we know each other in real life helps.
but the thing that pisses me off is when you try and speak to the command and get an order from him he doesnt want to know and plus when your commander and have voip USE IT!!!! am i the only commander out their that remotely bothers to guide my squads to free capture points etc?
people always complain about following orders results in less points but half the tim eif they listen to good commanders your normally find they are directing you to a flag with no guys around!and there even plant a uav right over it but yet people will still stay away from it - fucking GAY is the word
USE VOIP

You Got It!

Although not playing as Commander more than a few times.  I find using "V" VOIP key and guiding squads verbally is about 1000 times more efficient as compared to keyboard commands.

The trick is finding a server with fairly serious, mature players willing to listen and follow orders.

Commander using VOIP + Team willing to squad up and follow orders= WIN
