stream processors are the building blocks of SP. ATi likes to show off the streamk processor count, nv the shader processor count.

I do agree they should be correctly say when they talk about stream processors or the real big shader processors.

it does, but they aren't same as NVIDIA's.

Its nifty marketing trick to tell how many stream processors you have instead of the shader processors like NVIDIA does. Bigger numbers = more ppl will think its faster.

EDIT: OH yeah and NDA lifted, you'll find reviews now.

Stock cooler is pretty damn loud.

I could honestly not even give a damn about the noise of the cooler ... Buy a layer of sound proofing material like they use in cars and just put that on the inside wall opposite the GFX card. Should block it quite nicely. Though let's see what the other companies do when they slap different fans on them. I've read the Sapphire Vapor-X's are supposed to be nice.

Looks interesting, however I'm not buying anything new until I know it can run the most demanding game over 100 FPS. Going with small leaps of performance for the relatively same level of smoothness is frankly a waste of money.

Those are my two cents though.

I have nearly inaudible setup and I have more 'open' type of headset. If I am going to put 600€ in gfx cards I expect not to hear a wind turbine.

If you had any idea how much sound proofing material > GTX 295 level sound needs to stay reasonable....

OK, I just read the Tech Report's review on the 5870, and their sound measurements aren't nearly the same as that image you posted. What gives?

There seems to be a lot variation in noise tests across the board. Many describe it loud, many describe it as quiet. Will look into it wether the review samples have been "tweaked" to be more quiet than retail or the other way.

Checking the tubing once in a while, coolant replacement and adding coolant once in a while (unless you are using lab-grade tubing), if you change hw, you need to refill the loop again etc.

With air you just dust off the filters once in a while and forget it (takes long 5 seconds to do that really).

How do you descide when to buy then? By the time such a card is on the market, newer more demanding games release which just goes and moves those goal posts.

I was all set to buy today, I thought OCUK would do the 2pm launch but it seems the cards where up on order early morning Missed them. Be interested to see how the 5850 fairs, I believe any benchies that have them is a simulated 5850, there are no 5850s yet, atleast if fud is to be believed (all cores available where used as 5870s).

R800 is late october right?

Since mine was filled i have only had to dust off the rad once... no refilling and no real checking of tubes. when I put a new vid card in, I'll have to drain and adjust, but well worth it.

I can't imagine myself going water anytime soon. I switch my setup so often its pointless to make investment that only makes the hw changes pain in arse. (+ got 300 extra for other stuff like nice case )

That said, I really can't wait to see the TOXIC model of HD 5870 from Sapphire.
