Growing up here, between the ages of 1-12 (since moved away twice and come back, I'm back again for work), we had 1 dog and over 100 chickens killed by snakes. I've shot and stabbed quite a few.
Recently spaded a young one at the request of a guy I was boarding with in the capital a few weeks back.
Our kitchen bench has several gashes in it from a tenant we had here who attacked a snake with a garden hoe after it scared the shit out of him in the house.
Most of the snakes around here aren't lethal and only make you sick for weeks/months etc. We do get the odd coastal/inland taipan*, eastern brown and king brown. King browns are only dangerous because they seem to be aggro fuckers and they put between 5-10 times more venom into victims than most snakes. The taipan and eastern brown will kill you fairly fast if you aren't treated.
Funnily enough, my brother's pet cat used to hunt snakes and managed to kill a few of the brown snakes.
(only vague reports around here, don't think any confirmed reports of them in this area exist, then again I've seen a species of sword shark up here that was twice the size it should have been according to wiki)
