No, I'll just wallow in self pity until someone takes me by the hand and directs me to the nearest emergency room. Then I'll complain about my medical bills to politicians so they make it so I never have to pay another dime to address my own health issues.

Eh, I want a smaller police force and an Army designed to defend our borders. The only people who should be active duty military are pilots who need the training and special operations troops for the same reason. The line brigades should be reservists and guardsmen. We don't need a large standing army.

Yeah but when your health insurance is between 6000 to 14000 a year it starts to cut into living expenses..

Yeah good plan.. But then what happens if I need the health insurance, the company looks to screw me out of it. If it's a large claim.

The numbers really don't add up, lets say the majority of people in an area make 40k for a single person, you take out federal and state taxes and they're bringing home 28k(just basing that on average pay for the U.S., not household but per person also at a 30% tax). Then you tax out health care, lets say it's a single man with a PPO so the cost is 7200 a year.. Now he's made 21000 for living expenses, now you take out car insurance which is 5k a year..

It's now 16k money that this person has for the year to get food, gas, a roof and entertainment.. Can't really live by yourself then, can you?

i give up. If you want to live knowing someone is dying because they cannot afford treatment then its fine by me. Just don't go complaining when its a relative or a friend.

i leave you with a thought

if the U.S current health care system is so good, why does the US spend on average so much more per person on health care than other wealthy nations, yet have such dismal performances when it comes to life expectancy, child mortality rates, preventable diseases, obesity, etc?

child mortality is a BS number since not every country reports the same stuff.  but anyway.  i know stories of a kid in canada who had to wait 2 months for an MRI.  sorry, i would rather pay and do it this week.

Life expectancy is the same as other countries. Child mortality rates are fine. Preventable diseases? Like diabetes? Ties in with the last point. Obesity: people are fat slobs that don't know how to control their eating habits and like buying in bulk from WalMart or eating garbage food from McDonalds. They know not to do this but do it anyway. No sympathy here.

Really, stop getting your numbers from the WHO. Their criteria for health care rankings is weighted heavily in favor of any socialized system.

As far as Hire a lawyer, these are not lawsuit cases so you'd have to pay upfront.. So between the lawyer sueing the insurance company on your claim and going to court.. When do you work again?

It's just not real life.

If you're making 40k in Jersey you're going to be struggling no matter what. You think health care will be free? No. You'll just have a payroll deduction like you currently have for Medicaid and Social Security. Prove to me that government run health care will be more streamlined than the current system and that you won't end up paying the exact same amount. Hell, the government option isn't even on the table anymore. All the current legislation does is make it so people who currently don't have health insurance because they're young and feel they don't need it will be required to carry it. They're hoping that this will lower rates. Ha!

Depending on our government to do right by the people is the purest form of idiocy. They don't give a crap about you unless it's an issue that will hurt or help their chances at reelection. They know full well that 95% of incumbents get sent back to Washington. You wanna fix the problem with rising health insurance costs? Go form your own non-profit and do it yourself.

Sucks to be you. Next time save for a rainy day. You know you don't need to carry expensive health coverage right? Go get a high deductible insurance plan and then build up a Health Savings Account. It will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Yeah and with the flood of skilled and non skilled workers on the street, you'll be sitting pretty when your pay cuts come?

So basically your stance is, health care is fine the way it is. It sucks for people who are under employeed or out of work because they should have saved for a raining day?

I was using 40k for an estimate of income per person cause most household incomes are around 80k I belive..

So then since you don't think we need a large standing army, or a large police force, are you actually for a large tax cut?

You're talking to a Minarchist. I believe the only roles the government should play are in Justice and Defense. So yes, I believe in cutting out all the social programs and cutting tax rates down to a bare minimum as well. But, that's not very realistic eh?

No, I don't think the health care system as it is today is fine. The health insurance companies have all entrenched themselves within state legislatures and have severely limited competition. Try starting up a new health insurance company in your state. It can't be done. This is my main gripe with our government: every time it gets involved in business we the people lose because it's always one company trying to pull the rug out from under another. Instead of actually competing they just use our politicians as proxies. It's completely unethical and it's about to get worse if the Supreme Court overturns the ban on corporations openly funding political campaigns.

What needs to happen, and it's a really easy fix and 99% of this problem would go away overnight... is just to enforce the interstate commerce laws and open the states up to competition. This won't happen because the insurance companies have a very very nice racket going on right now. They have a captive audience. Competition would lower their profits. Tack on a piece of legislation preventing the companies from dropping people with pre-existing conditions and you fix the other 1%. Enact this and you end up with lower prices, better coverage, and more people covered.

I agree we need less government involvement.. Even more so we need less lawyers in this country, I belive not too long ago someone sued and won a doctor for saving there life because they were going to live there life out in pain.. What the fuck is that bullshit? The medical lawsuits that go on in this country are crazy and they need to stop...
