This all started on Sunday as I was working on coursework. Word stopped responding and other applications that I was running soon followed suit. I restarted, everything worked fine and I forgot about it.

However, over the last few days, the exact same thing happened another three times. The most recent was around half an hour ago. The first applications that froze were Word (again), iTunes and My Computer.

Specs:

OS: Windows XP Professional SP 2

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 1.7 GHz

Motherboard: Fujitsu Siemens D1192

RAM: 512mb (4x 128mb) 400MHz

Video Card: Nvidia RIVA TNT2 M64 32mb

Any ideas?

3 x 128MB is not 512MB
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

When was the last time you reinstalled windows? Run any defrag or registry cleaning programs?
I don't know. I just really started using it a month ago. Its been sitting in this room for a long time unused. The computer was originally owned by the University where my dad works, so I assume that they installed it.

Ill run a defrag now.....

Do the usual stability testing with Prime95, memtest, atitool, checkdisk. If they come up clean, windows is probs messed up and needs a reinstall
