BF2S Forums Can someone tell a noob like me how to create a website

get yourself a blog or one at freewebs...That coding and scripting stuff is pain in the ass!

If you're desperate to get a site sorted ASAP, you might want to look at something like Wordpress.

If not, get on http://w3schools.com and start learning basic HTML

If you want www.myname.com, you'll need to register a domain first. A site such as godaddy.com, or 123-reg.co.uk will help you out there. Next, now you've got the name, you need some disk space to host your website- hostmonster is a great starter; very cheap as well. You'll need to edit your DNS settings to point your domain to your web space, but there are thousands of tutorials on how to do this. Thats you all set. Upload some content to your new website, and its all done.

Well, although Wordpress is certainly a nice suggestion and isn't too hard to learn, it's not really the most useful of things to grab for yourself.

The second site, the guy has used this:

In conjunction with some very basic XHTML and CSS.

The first guy has chosen to code his website with PHP, but from what I can see at first glance, there was no need to do so as it is a static website. He has also chosen to go for a flash viewer, not sure which (not as good as the second one though). Now, the reality is that Flash viewers are outdated and not as customisable as one would like. The equivalent most developer will use is Javascript.

There is a huge library of Javascript libraries out there, and in about 1.5 hours you could easily get your site set up, with a template, a gallery and all your images uploaded. Some galleries to look at:

Whilst Flash can look better than Javascript, js can be easier to use and is always Open Source, so you would have no trouble modifying it.

I would help you personally with your site and your queries, but I currently have very little time on my hands, so I suggest you try some of what I said, and then when you hit problems post them here and I'll check when I can. Also allows the other guys to help you as well, they may have better suggestions/ideas.

Wix used to force you to do everything through them, not sure if that's changed. (Change the blue heading to yellow it doesn't look right being a different color).

they let you get an embedded code now

No, that will not work - without getting into it too much. Simply put, if you want 'www.yourname.com', you'll just need to buy hosting (and of course your domain name).

soo whats the cheapest i can get both of those?

Don't waste your money on hosting just yet. Let me get back from a meeting up north and I'll pm you with something nice Just purchase a domain name. doesn't really matter from where, just as long as it's just the domain and you can change the nameservers.
