My mate just finished upgrading his computer, but we can't get it to POST.

It's a:

ASUS Rampage II Extreme
Intel i7 920
6Gb (3*2) OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600Mhz
Corsair HX850
NVidia GTX295

It powers on and everything spins up, but the screen never catches. It's not the GPU, because we tried his old 8800GT with no luck. Suggestions? We've tried the whole swapping out RAM thing and unplugging everything, but it's started tripping fuses, which is student accommodation is a massive pain to get reset. It sounds like the mobo has a whole series of problems associated with it, so if it has to get RMA'd, what should we try to get it swapped with?

Tripping fuses?

Sounds like power problems, then. PSU?

It only did it when we took the RAM out and put one stick in though. If it had done it all the time I'd have said PSU as well.

Sounds like a coincidence that the fuse blew when you powered it up without RAM. I really cannot see those two things being related.

It did it twice, so we stopped after some rather angry security guards came up again to reset it.

CMOS reset? Had same problem (Asus mobo). Not sure how I fixed but it had to be a combo of CMOS reset and reseating GFX card & RAM

Had the same problems few months ago. I got a new mobo and everything worked. ASUS, too.

Whats the code in the diagnostic led screen of the mobo?

This.

Looks in the R2E manual - there's a list of what each of the error codes mean.

Is there much chance of a 850W PSU blowing a 5A socket? Because we just got an email about being careful what you plug in.

Shouldn't something that powerful be on 13A?
I just google'd and found this random website. http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/fuses.htm

13A for appliances between 700-3,000W
