I'll probably have around $1500 saved up by December. I need a new case, mobo, RAM, CPU and GFX card.

I'm not looking to plan this just yet but I've been out of the tech loop for a while, so..

1) What are the best components available right now? I also might get an extra HD (the 300 gb raptor looks nice)
2) Are there any components coming out soon that I should know about? Nvidia/AMD cards or a new Intel CPU?

Save the money for your trip. You won't need a desktop in Europe. Not to mention by the time you get back it will be past its prime.

I usually start by checking out the high-end gaming systems like Falcon NW or Alienware... see what mobos they're using. Should get you started at least.

Panzer and max are probably the people to talk to about cases and newer video cards.

I believe Nvidia where aiming for black friday for Fermi (though I think it would be a paper launch).  R800 is due this month, and the new Intel CPU's arent going to be out till 2010.

R800 (5870X2) is what am thinking of at the right price
