anyone good with the mean value theorem? if not im fuuuucked. like I understand it, but trying to apply it to an inequality with absolutes makes my head spin. im supposed to prove an inequality and I dunno how
Yeah, their act seemed kinda played out.SEREMAKER wrote:

The whole act was weak, imo.SEREMAKER wrote:

feck, should be mathsing

it states f(x) is continuous and differentiable on [a,b] and (a,b) respectively. Which is fine.cowami wrote:

then it says there is a #c b/w A and B such that f(b) - f(a)/b - a = f'(c)
which is cool and all. but we get no interval for this problem.
use MVT to prove |sin a - sin b| less than or equal to |a-b| for all a, b. the TA said to check on a<b and b<a, but i dunno what that matters because its absolute value anyway.
so for whatever reason it starts out as f(x) = sin (x). Checked for continuity, and differentiable. Cool. end up with |sin a - sin b| = |cos c|*|a-b|. |cos c| is any number in the interval [0,1].
Okay, so what? How does that prove anything? I seem to be stuck here.

sorry man, i've gone through 4 years worth of maths and don't remember a fucking thing.
im pretty good with math, its just we dont get taught. the prof says, here, this is how you do it. then we do a simple problem. then on the hw we get a problem that looks nothing like it.S3v3N wrote:

the TA is japanese and just works every problem on the board, cant really explain anything.

luckily is was equiv to a 8th grade algebra-ish/trig and it was a joke to me but LOTS of students who hadn't had this math yet were struggling simply because they could not follow the teacher/understand his accent - how he came to solutions in class. i was having to explain steps to other students that were lost but w/e
it would prolly be worth it to change to a diff teacher's class
