Why does 21:9 decrease the vertical resolution instead of widening it horizontally?
And why are most 21:9 movies shot in such a way that viewing them with the sides 'cut off' makes it unwatchable? Afaik almost nobody has a 21:9 TV in the first place

This pisses me off too, movies are just a sliver in the middle of my widescreen, and if you zoom even to a less-shit letterbox you still miss half the crap.

Pay TV has true 16:9 films though.

agreed. HD tv manufactures are not speaking to HD camera makers apparently.  it really is annoying.
