This just in. hot from the papers.

World of Warcraft Accounts Closed - Ordinn on 4/12/06
In keeping with Blizzard's aggressive stance against cheating in World of Warcraft, we have since patch 1.10 banned over 5,400 accounts and suspended 10,700 more for participating in activities that violate the game's Terms of Use, including using third-party programs to farm gold and items. Such actions can severely impact the economy of a realm and the overall game enjoyment for all players.

We will continue to aggressively monitor all World of Warcraft realms in order to protect the service and its players from the harmful effects of cheating. Please note that selling World of Warcraft content, such as gold, items, and characters, can result in a permanent ban of the involved accounts from World of Warcraft.

Many account closures come as the direct result of tips reported to our GMs in game or emailed to hacks@blizzard.com by legitimate World of Warcraft players. If you suspect that a World of Warcraft player is using an illegal third-party program to farm gold or items, or is otherwise violating our Terms of Use, please report the suspected infraction via one of the means listed above. All reports will be investigated, and those that prove false will not result in corrective action.

Thank you for your continued support, and good luck with your adventures in Azeroth!

EA would be foolish to implement such a policy...it would cost them a large chunk $$ for full time employees to deal with every whiney ass post about someone stat-padding, team-killing, being an asshole etc. Nevermind getting 500 submits about how everyone thinks Blazin is a cheater, or Firestorm is a padder etc..

Talk about creating your own nightmare, they would never do such a foolish thing. They don't earn monthly fees like WoW EQ FFXI do, so they don't have to protect the "economy" or in BF2s case, legitimacy of the stats that well. They only really care about people in the top ranks. Implementing a global whine system for God knows how many players would just create more chaos then its worth. These forums are already getting bad enough.

In general, the only people that should get witch-hunted about padding or what not should be the ones in the top ranks. Who cares if some 10,000 place 2nd LT pads some engy points. If someone in the top 10 is blatantly padding then fine make a post, but if it is someone else save us the board space.

Actually a patch is in the works. Those cheating fags in top 10 will be gone soon. not that it matters, it's just people being stupid. they are not messing with other players stats just making a joke out of EA's ranking system.

Sony did this too a few months ago in Everquest.  There was a monster mission in Lavastorm that people were macroing.  Each successful mission got you a full AA of experience, so basically, people would let it run all day long.  So if you were strolling through lavastorm, you would see groups of people just sitting around the zone in.  So a GM one day went in, and ended up banning 70 accounts on the Maelin server...

the only reason blizzard can afford to do this type of monitoring is because people pay a subscription fee to play their game.

That's exaclty it.  It's kinda dumb to expect EA to put in that much effort for something we play online for free.  Now if you would rather pay a monthly fee to play BF2 that's another story.  Might make for an interesting pole.

I can't believe none of you have played a Blizzard game.

I say this because the hacks/cheats/item dupes were happening for more than 1.5 years before the killed those accounts.  I am NOT exaggerating!

Check out the blizzard forum history a bit...ppl bitching about Blizzard more than you ppl bitch about EA.

I would also point out that the Diablo series do not require a monthly fee, but they closed the accounts of cheating bas-tards.  It took them a LONG time....but it did happen.

EA is one of the biggest company in the world, in other words they are rich. How else can they keep releasing so many games and still be in bussines. Almost every sportgames come from them, some other good games are sponsored by them. So these fellas just want to earn money. So I don't think they money is the problem is just that they wanna release another game as soon as possible. Heard about BattleField 2142?

I still think they can do a better job but they wont because they are rolling in the cash from all the money their amking from not only bf2 and all its stupid expansion and booster packs i bet they couldnt care less. About even thinking of the idea like blizzards

but i must say they are quite quick to reset those players with those stats.
