is it used? considering you can get AM3 stuff and DDR3 ram for the same price as that new, no its not worth it.

Reckon you could post your old specs so we know how much of an upgrade it is?

Also budget for new build?

As for is it worth it. No not really. Not very new tech and the price isn't fantastic. (it's not bad but... yer....especially if its used). But if you are upgrading from something really bad and are on a tight budget then its not too] bad.

Also @ Nic you aren't going to get new AM3 + DDR3 stuff for $450 AUD in Australia. Probably more like $600 AUD minimum for a decent AM3 + DDR3 + Motherboard.

All prices in $AU:
Intel Core i5 750 - ~$250
Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD4 mATX board- ~$250
4GB of Corsair DDR3 RAM - ~$120

That leaves $380. I suggest a 4870 for the GPU - I know the 5850 is out but seeing as it is some $400, while the 4870 is $200 (The shop up the road from me has them for $170), it's a better buy for your budget.
Then get yourself a good PSU (I won't recommend any, others here know more then me) and a HDD - 500GB can be had for as little as $60.

Something like that for the PSU, although that might be a touch overkill.

Thanks Finray,
I would prefer something a touch overkill than have something that will "just" be good enough kinda thing,

rather be safe than sorry is what im trying to say

Yeah thats a pretty good option for a PSU (Finray's that is), leaves room for upgrade. Graphics depends largely on how much money you have left/ are willing to spend. I would say a HD4870 1GB for the $170 - $200 range, and if you end up with more money than expended then go all out with a HD5870 for about $500 (or HD57850 for $380). Also if I were you i'd consider going for an i7 920 instead of a i5 750... But it's more expensive so its heavily reliant on budget.

GTX 300. Disadvantage is that it isn't out yet. Also, if nVidia follow their current trend it will most likely be more expensive. Of course the specs/performance/price are unknown at this time so really impossible to know. One advantage is that it will most likely drive down the 58xx prices and prompt the release of a 5850X2 and 5870X2.

There is no competitor from nVidia currently out.

650w... what kinda graphic card are you getting because I would much rather take HX520W, HX450W or HX650W because they are much quieter and based on Seasonic designs.
