Well, school is fucking retarded in the US. Why the fuck is a GPA so important? I've averaged a 95% in every category except math since the first grade. And about an 85% in math. Lets be honest, I'm no AP genius- But I passed the AP euro test with a solid 3 and a B in the class. Last year I would have had a 3.75 if it wasn't for Spanish. Why the fuck do I need at LEAST two years of Spanish to get into a good college? I fucking despise the language and its either that or latin- And why the fuck would I want to learn a dead language? I'm no doctor. So therefore, I end up with like a 3.2. What does that mean? Well, it means I'm fucked. I can't even get into SDSU with that shit. The thing is is i take accelerated courses and get B's in them that are non weighted then get beat out by some asshat who got an A in regular english. And its so easy a caveman can do it. So therefore I get fucked for challenging myself.

Why the fucking shit do I have to take two years of a "fine art" so therefore I can't take foods. I'm a shit for brains at art. Sure, I could take photography, which i love. But I'm already a photographer for yearbook WHICH IS 200x HARDER and I get NO FINE ART CREDITS. I have to go back to school on my spare time and shoot all the sports, schedule people for their senior shit, and I dont get any special credit for that. WHAT THE FUCK! So some dead beat fuckoff can sit in photo and take a waterbottle all day and now hes more prepared for college than I? I'm in an after school law enforcement for my second elective- BUT ITS A GENERAL ELECTIVE. So youre telling me that some fuckard drawing dicks in art class is more prepared for college than I who went through a actual meaningful class?

Then, how the fuck am I supposed to afford this shit? If I decided to be a doctor id be in debt until im 45 years old for christ sake. College reminds me of a rolex fucking watch. Theres no reason for it to go up EVERY YEAR except for the fact they are greedy twats, just like the publishers.

then what? how the hell am i supposed to find a job? and the way I look at it, I might as well wipe my ass with the dollar by the time I graduate college. shitcunt

goddammit- JC here i come.

Go to college so you can get a good job. Once you get a good job you get the money. Once you get the money you get the power. After you get the power you get the women.

LOL.  And all this time I thought you were living the high life like in Coronado or something as a Seal officer.  Like a friend of a friend, retired Seal who spent his time just diving and spear fishing.

- Spanish.  You are in San Diego.  It's basically the first language.  You will use it, at least, for the senoritas.

You can get a decent paying job. Work in the trenches of some lame job like McDonald's for like 6 months. I know that Sprint Nextel only requires you to be 18, have a high school diploma and 6 months of retail or customer service experience to apply as a salesperson. They pay more than minimum wage I'm sure, and there's commission for sales.

You can go to community college for the first two years. Except for a small number of fields, your first two years of college education are pretty general. Community college is much cheaper than state and private college. I remember reading something about how the majority of Cal's transfer admits are actually from CCC and not from other four years. I know that in Northern Virginia Community College, there are guaranteed admission programs to great schools like Virginia Tech and UVA. You've gotta have a good GPA and good grades in each class, but if you do that then you're guaranteed admission.

And as others have said, there's always the military. Apply for ROTC scholarships too if you'd rather go to college and then join the military.

edit: Shadow it's because it makes you more marketable. If I had two applicants for a job, with exactly the same credentials except one only spoke English and the other spoke English and Spanish (or German, or Chinese, or Japanese, or...) I'd take the guy who knows many languages.

High GPA = Better grades. Better grades = better university.
What's so hard to understand or be mad at?

And they make you take fine arts stuff and foreign languages to be a well-rounded person, or as much as possible. Communication and knowing how to socialize is a big part of every job.

There's nothing wrong with going to a JC/CC then transferring. That's better, actually. Saves you some money and you probably get a better education in those smaller classes (even though they're probably increasing, 60 is still much much less than 300). If you can't afford to go to school, apply for financial aid, you'd get it.

Fail.

Philosophy majors are highly sought after for big businesses.

Why you ask? They're taught how to think.

Same, then again you don't get rich by being silly with your money

I'm actually considering going to NVCC for two years to save my family money. I've got a major guilt complex about my dad spending so much money on a private school when I could just as well attend NVCC and then transfer to UVA or VT. Not to mention I find it very hard to focus on schoolwork in a 'real' college environment. It's so much more fun to go out partying every other night than work on something. Whereas if I was at NVCC I'd either live at home or have my own place. And a job of course to pay for that place. So I'd focus on schoolwork and my job. So I'd do well in CC and be able to transfer to UVA or VT.

Gah.

edit: Bevo's got a good point. I mean, if you only majored in philosophy I think it might be hard to get a job as an accountant or economist. But I could see someone who took it seriously getting a good marketing job.

It's kind of like majoring in psychology. People who take it seriously, get internships, do research etc go on to grad school and become psychiatrists or psychological researchers. Those who don't take it seriously end up not being able to do anything good with it.

You're naive if you think a big business is going to take someone with a degree in Phil over someone with a degree in Economics. Even my Phil Professor for one of my classes said it isn't a degree that would bring home cash. You can look online and at career planners advice and they will all say the same thing.
The correct thing to say I am would be pessimistic.

After this first semester/quarter, you'll see. Your grades will be shit and you'll realize you need to strike a balance between the two (as well as study more than you thought) and then hopefully be fine from then on. It happens to almost everyone, and it's not a big deal. Besides, part of the college experience is living away from home and being off on your own. If your family can afford to send you there, stick with it. Living at home, going to CC while having a job is like high school part 2. Nothing wrong with that if you don't have a choice of course, but it seems like you'll be fine doing what you're doing.
