BF2s Mechanics, need yer help.

I have this heat shield in my car in front of the headers, and it's bolted down with about 10 bolts. Problem is, the bolts are seized and they will just strip if I try to remove them. How can I remove the bolts if they are seized in there? I wanna put new headers on some day, but these bolts holding the heat shield down are preventing me from doing it. Would penetrating fluid work?

Try spraying them with some WD40.

Well when you guys strip a bolt it often at times fuck up the space the bolt goes into. Hence why if you strip an motor oil tank bolt  you might need to totally replace the tank instead of just the bolt.

You'll probably need some sort of heavy duty power tool plus WD40. If you really wanted them loosened just take it to a garage they probably have the right stuff to get it done properly. No point continuing to tamper with it yourself, like you said, don't want to strip those bitches

A 'heavy duty power tool' won't fit in the space between the headers and the rad unfortunately.

And I don't wanna pay a garage to get some bolts out for me.

Yeah there are some that would fit in there. An Air Ratchet might fit.

As far as I know Heat Shields aren't meant to come off.

O fuck just remembered if you strip the bolts and take the heat shield off you can use an aluminum clamp to hold the heat shield back in place.

FML I thought you wanted to put it back on.

Just go to a shop and ask them to remove the heat shield. An Air Ratchet would take it right off easy.

Don't go to a Honda dealer though because they might try to say you are doing illegal mods and void your warranty. Go to A "mom and pop" type place.

An air ratchet would just strip it faster. I'll try some penetrant.

Air Ratchets have a lot of power, I'm sure it'll wreck the whole bolt enough that you can force it out.

Either way Good luck

Drill them out then redo the holes with a tap and die set, or, if you don't have too put a new heat shield on, just do step one.

I have removed stripped bolts/screws before by taking a drill to them. use a small bit, less than the diameter of the shaft. The idea is to get it to expand.

PB blaster works well, soak that shit and let it sit.... overnight if possible.

However there was just an article in GRM about this very thing with a bit of a random solution:
So you deal with a lot of rusty nuts? Go down to the hardware store and buy some acetone, a quart of Dexron Mercon and a refillable spray bottle. In the spray bottle mix the ATF and acetone in a 1:1 mixture.

Spray away and get your nuts loose!

Independent testing of penetrating oils using a single steel bar with 1/2”x20 nuts torqued to 50 ft/lbs and treated with a 10% salt water solution that was allowed to rust. Listed are the chemicals and required removal torque.

-None ………………… 516 pounds

-WD-40 ……………… 238 pounds

-PB Blaster …………. 214 pounds

-Liquid Wrench ….. 127 pounds

-Kano Kroil ………… 106 pounds

-ATF-Acetone mix….53 pounds
Automatic transmission fluid and acetone seems to be a miracle mixture. Again, let soak for as long as possible.... Don't drive with out it being FULLY dry because acetone is flammable as fuck.
