Currently running vista 64, and probably need to re-format at some stage. Now should I stick with vista or go to 7? I will have to buy either either way.
Either will do, but the generic response will be 7.
And you never have to buy software..

From all accounts i've seen, you'd do well to upgrade. here @ work we are skipping vista altogether. i plan on buying the retail (ultimate)edition, and put business edition on a separate machine.
Buying is for people with money.
Or people that don't want to break the law? Chances are most people here on this forum are eligible for a student discount copy anyway.
Go for 7.

'too legit to quit!' or
'buy now, pay later' or yeah. i'm a working man, in IT. i want the retail ed. to see how it will differ. MSDN aside, i'm getting the gold copy for my personal pc.
and my laptop.
If your going to buy a copy of either, go 7.
If you got vista and would buy 7, stick with vista.

What, no cliche poll?
Anywho, been using the release version of 7 for a month or so and it's great. Go with that over Vista.

If you're buying, I'll have to say 7, even if my personal opinion is that Vista for the moment being is far better.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Woot for free legal windows from MSDNAA
(I have no idea what that stands for...I was trying to find keys on DC++ when some one told me I could have a legal copy free)
Its funny how many people are into windows 7, and that they are the same people who go on and on about what crap vista was. Windows 7 = Vista SP3 + Marketing. It has a few advantages over vista... but its pretty fucking close to the same.

Windows 7 for me is ALOT stabler and runs ALOT smoother than vista 64 ever did.
The new task utilises minimalism well
Various aspects such as the shake a window and show desktop button are great innovative concepts.
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously. ♥
So where do we get 7 for free?
Thanks +1.Sup wrote:

I don't disagree that there are some nice additions, but they are mainly small and moving stuff around. Almost like a new SPtazz. wrote:

Win7 runs slower on my laptop then vista did, but I'd assume that is due to running 32 bit software and my 7 copy being 64. Don't know what shake a window is, but show desktop was there in vista... in fact I think it was there in XP SP2 IIRC. Its just that 7 isn't THAT far off from Vista, and is basically vista with a few more bugs worked out, then re-named to shut up the people who saw one too many mac commercial about vista... And its kinda funny how well its working.
