This is exactly why I was comfortable with laughing about this, even before he was found.
Parents see a balloon take off from the backyard and can't find their kid, so immediately assume the worst. This entire time I figured he must've been hiding somewhere, probably at a friend's house or something.
Glad the kid's safe and all, but the parents should be fined or given community service time for wasting the resources of the cities/counties involved.

I'll take that ending. At 6, forgiveable. I'll still punish the dad somehow though. Kid's that age shouldn't be exposed to such dangers.

Im a parent, so naturally when a story develops like this, and given the possibilities, before all the shenanigans came out, I was genuenly fearful for the thought of a 1st grader floating across the sky at 8,ooo feet.
You have to remember that his older brother, who is no older than 10, gave the report to local authorities. He gave multiple accounts that his lil bro got in the balloon right before it was released. Dont you remember making up stories when you were that age?
