Code:

Connected to server but unable to authenticate your login name and password. Make sure you entered the correct global server password or the password for your unique login name. You will be automatically banned if you try connecting with the wrong password several more times, so be sure you have the correct password before you try again. Passwords are case sensitive and must be completely retyped if you are making a change to it. The password will always be displayed as 8 (*'s or dots) even if the actual length of the password is shorter or longer then 8. You should also verify that you entered the correct IP address (or hostname) and Port number. If the port number is wrong you are connecting to the wrong server.
I have a legal copy of 64 bit windows 7 professional and I can't get ventrilo to work.

I am currently dual booting with xp(32 bit), and it will work there but it wont work on either of my windows 7 computers (both running 64 bit pro, but one was obtained from a different source)

All available updates have been installed for windows, and I am running the most recent version of vent. I also tried running it in xp compatibility mode, running as admin, as well as downloading and trying to 32 bit version. keep getting rejected as if I got the password wrong, but I have had it reset several times... and like I said log in info works fine on xp sp2 32bit

Can't find anyone else having this problem with google, and I have seen people with the same setup complaining of lag... but that means they can at least connect.

If it makes a difference the server is set to have unique passwords for all users.

Are there perhaps forums on the Ventrilo website? Maybe try there.

What about driver issues with the ethernet port/mother board? Anything there that might be potentially causing an issue?

Hmmm... may be worth looking into. When ever I re-install xp I need to manually install ethernet drivers before the thing can get online, but with windows 7 it recognized it automatically. All games and applications get internet fine, and vent finds the server (just can't log in) but I will give it a try.

I found that gigabyte only offers sound and video drivers for the motherboard on their site... But I really don't think that is the issue. Like I said all other internet stuff from aim to games works perfect.

Posted up on the vent forums... but I have to wait for a moderator to approve

Could it be a potential issue with the Vent server itself?

Nope, tried some other vent server...

Then again, if you know of one I can try post it up, the one I tried I found on here through searching and the post was over a year old... But I am 99.9% sure its still up because vent says server found before I connect. The password may have changed though...

I'll ask if anyone else in the guild is using win 7 though.

Firewall/port issue is all that makes sense.

Potentially that, but that should be on the router side of things; unless Microsoft's built-in firewall is really something new.

That might be possible, though. Hadn't really thought of that. If you know what port Vent is using to connect all the time, you could just do port forwarding.

Should you want to look into port forwarding, http://www.portforward.com/english/rout … rindex.htm

Not really behind a router... well I get internet through my apartment complex so I probably am further down the line, but vent works fine in xp... and I disabled firewall in windows 7. If the port is blocked using xp on my computer wouldn't open it.

Fixed it!
Somehow... or it fixed its self... or god fixed it... or maybe a windows update... I also downloaded telnet in there to test it...

Because the server application is ridiculously bad. It cannot handle multiple network interfaces reliably, it ignores its own explicit configuration parameters, and it stops working completely every now and then for no reason. It's great when it works, but it's nowhere near as technologically sound as TeamSpeak is. And the licensing is very unappealing.
