FFS why did I click that link? I'm going to go to bed soon.

Oh yea, my brush with the paranormal:

So I'm on my PC, starting up a game, when I get up to shut the window behind me. At the time, I was thinking about Alma from F.E.A.R./that girl from the ring films and how scary violent little ghost girls are.
As I shut the window, with these pleasant thought going through my head, I hear this high pitched, hoarse whisper right behind me.
So I whip around, expecting to come face to face with some little girl badly in need of a haircut....
....only to see it's that fucking "EA games, challenge everything" video from the startup of BF2 being played through my headphones.

Yea, I scare easy.

I wouldn't dream of dismissing the spirit world. Even I have a lot of spirits in my livingroom cabinet. Around 20 different bottles (been sipping the older ones away so I can get new stuff). You meant that right? Right?

I kind of want to know, but I also kind of don't.

Scariest thing that ever happened to me was I was in a friends room with her and another dude, and we were all pretty drunk and discussing ghost stories. She's from Nigeria, so she was telling us about Jinn, which are Islamic spirits or something. I don't really remember exactly what happened, but she said 'Satan' there was this huge bang against the doom. Like someone hit it really fucking hard. Needless to say, we all freaked the fuck out, and ran back to our rooms. Now I know there's a million things it could have been, but it seems like a really convenient coincidence.

I couldn't watch the Exorcist with my ex. She had once played around with her friends with an ouija board and ofcourse they had to ask if someone else was in the room and they, surprise surprise, got satan written. Aaaaand they all freaked out and blah blah. She got all pissy at me because I kinda laughed at her That girl didn't have all the Moomin's in the valley...

This,

I had to settle for front row seats because my stupid friend (who had just watched the earlier showing) left his headlights on, so I needed to give him a jump.

I spent my PA experience with a knot in my neck due to having to look up at the screen rather than being in the upper seats.

Believe it or not, the movie had more comical scenes than it did scary ones, but that's just my POV.

Trying to find the thread where I posted this before.  Not had any luck yet.  I think it was a thread with a poll regarding belief in ghosts or something.  Still looking, if I don't find it, I'll try to take the time to post it.

Aright, here we go, reposting from the bf2s temp forum we had for a bit:

At about age 18, I came home to my parent’s house and decided to make a sandwich in the kitchen.  I distinctly heard my sister’s audible voice from downstairs so I went down to say hi.  I searched the whole basement, no sister, and no exit to the outside from the basement.  If that wasn’t spooky enough, when I came back upstairs to the kitchen every single drawer and cupboard door was wide open when they were all closed moments before.  Just plain weird.

Another time when I was about 15 or 16 and we lived in a completely different state in the Midwest, I had been walking from a friend's house back to my house out in the country.  It was about dusk and a light appeared out in the field.  I noticed it, but didn't think much of it and kept walking.  When I looked back it was still there, moving parallel to me.  As I continued down the road, it moved parallel to me a couple hundred feet out.  I tried to convince myself someone was trying to mess with me.  But the light was unlike any I had ever seen with a green color to it.  When I stopped, it stopped.  As soon as I moved, it moved.  Needless to say this was not a comforting experience so I hurried on home.  I had difficulty sleeping that night and tossed and turned until well past midnight.  I was almost asleep when I felt a presence near me.  Dreading what I might see I slowly turned and inches from my face was a hideous face glowing green.  It did not look human and was definitely not of this earth.  Frozen in shock and fear I couldn't will myself to move so I just prayed and immediately it disappeared.

I have many other stories from friends who have experienced things far beyond my stories that will give you chills.
-----------------------
You got it.  My best friend in high school is the subject of these.  When he was in his late teens he was at a week of camp in northern Michigan as a student counselor.  Basically in charge of the guys and making sure they stay out of trouble.  In the morning he’d let the guys he was in charge of hit the showers first and he’d take his turn last, always getting a a cold shower for his kindness.  However, one day he headed toward the shower house and saw someone enter.  He followed, not thinking anything of it.  One of the guys must have woke up late, he assumed.  As he entered he called out “good morning” and received no response.  Huh.  He knew he saw someone enter and it was a cinder block type building with only one entrance/exit, so he walked down the row and no one was there.  Feeling uneasy, he convinced himself it was nothing.  Hot was always on the left and cold on the right for water temperature so he turned on the hot if by chance there was some left, though there never had been before.  Nope, ice cold.  Oh well, nothing new.  Just then he heard a deep laugh from the back of the building furthest from the one exit.  He peeks out to investigate, grabbing his towel.  As he steps out he catches the reflection of something darting away from the entrance towards the back of the building where the laugh came from.  Now he’s mad, someone’s messing with him, but he’s blocking the entrance so there’s no way they can get out.  Grabbing his soap bar, he goes to pummel whoever’s there.  All stalls are empty.  Wth??  This can’t be possible.  He hurries back to his shower to finish and just get out and as he goes to step into the shower, the water instantly doubles pressure and is so hot that the steam burns his arm slightly so he jumps away to avoid being burned more.  Then it shut off . . . on its own.  I would have made my escape by this time, but he’s curious and turns on the hot water side again.  Ice cold . . .

The same friend above told me this story that he heard from a friend of his that was studying to become a pastor.  His friend went with a mentor of his to a woman’s home who had called asking for prayer for her daughter.  They entered and immediately felt a presence in the home that was not friendly.  The mother proceeded to describe the weird things occurring in the home, especially involving her daughter . . . lights flashing on and off with no one near the lightswitch, cupboards and drawers opening on their own, doors slamming shut by themselves, all family members hearing unfamiliar voices in her daughter’s room.  They pastor felt it best to pray for the little girl who was about 9 or 10 years old so they asked her to come to the living room.

The pastor, my friend’s friend, and the girl’s parents all placed a hand on the girl and as soon as they began to pray, the lights in the room dimmed like a power surge had hit.  The girl’s skin was instantly hot to the touch and an unnatural voice came from the girl saying “Why are you hear?” in an angry tone.  This was obviously shocking, but the pastor gathered himself and answered “we are here to pray for this girl in the name of Jesus”.  The voice yelled louder “leave us” and the girl began thrashing around.  The four adults tried to hold onto her, but she threw them off, jumped up, and flipped over the couch.  Now my friend’s friend was a big guy, 6’3”, 250, muscular and the pastor was a decent sized guy as was the girl’s father.  I couldn’t take him alone let alone a 9 or 10 year old girl.  They attempted to approach the girl again, but were held back, unable to approach.  They continued to pray while holding each other’s hands as the girl breathed heavily at the front of the room.  It was not until they prayed in the name of the blood of Jesus, that the beings left, the girl collapsed, and the lights returned to normal.

Another time, my best friend and his father and brothers were staying at their cabin, I don’t remember what state it was.  Nice place in a wooded area near a lake with boat access and good fishing and out in the middle of nowhere.  While they stayed there, they noticed a door that kept coming open in one upstairs bedroom.  They figured the place must have settled slightly so they decided installing a new knob would likely solve the problem.  It did.  The next day they came home from fishing and put away their gear and the same door was open again.  Puzzled, they checked the door knob while opening and shutting the door and it was snug.  Weird.  Not giving it another thought they prepared the fish and cooked it up for dinner and went to bed.

My friend has 4 brothers and there were 2 bedrooms and a couch, so 3 brothers slept in the smaller room, he and his oldest brother were in the room with the door issue, and their dad slept on the couch.  In the middle of the night, they were all startled awake by the door slamming shut.  Ok, who’s playing pranks guys.  Everyone said they were in bed.  Yeah, right, quit messing around and go to bed.  So they did.  About a half hour later, same thing, but the door slammed even louder this time.  Everyone gets up telling whoever’s being a dork to knock it off.  By this time most of them are starting to wonder if everyone is telling the truth.  All go back to bed with one eye open and no one is sleeping.  The 2 youngest get up and are scared so they go downstairs and ask their dad if they can start a fire in the fireplace.  Their dad starts a fire and they put their sleeping bags nearby and try to go to sleep.  The other brothers can’t sleep either and decide to go down to sit by the fire and calm down a bit.  Now no one is upstairs in the 2 bedrooms.  About an hour later there is a loud crash and everyone jumps.  Now his dad goes to investigate.  The door is installed the regular way where you’d push to open it into the bedroom and you’d pull to open it from inside the bedroom.  When he reaches the bedroom he sees the door laying in the middle of the bedroom . . .  ripped off its hinges.

That's not scary - I spent around a minute trying to work out whether she was poking her tongue out on purpose or was just missing her lower jaw (in which case she shouldn't have a tongue...).  Kind of cute actually, except for the missing jaw and blood, and the overly large base of her head.  Also, what's she going to do, gnaw on you with her top teeth?

I have a sinking feeling I'm missing the point here.

On the other hand, you have to take spirit thingies objectively.  If it were just another person, just floating around and invisible and breaking your things, you'd most likely tell that person to go away, or bash said person.  Now, if some invisible person were to come at you with a machete, that's cause for alarm.

I really want to see this movie because I find it interesting. The only thing that really happened in my house that we thought was fucking scary was when my little sister was 5.

My sister would wake up in the middle of the night and start playing with her toys and just talking like she always does when she plays with dolls. So my mom would get up and tell her to go to sleep. This went on for about a month and one night my sister started screaming bloody fucking murder. It was a very loud sharp scream. We all went up to her room and she was on the corner of her bed with a blank look on her face. When we finally calmed her down a bit she told us that the girl she has been playing with tried to hurt her. Ya right, thats what I was thinking. Go back to bed you fucking baby. I seriously didn't think anything of it.
2 weeks later I heard her talking to herself in her room. I went to go tell her to go to bed for fuck sakes but before I opened the door she was sitting up on her bed looking at her wall fucking talking to it and shit. She was having a fucking conversation with something. Like she would pause and then answer questions or some shit. I got the biggest chills ever when  I walked in there.
We ended up moving out of the house (we bought a bigger nicer one. Didn't move because this bull shit), and she stopped having conversations in the middle of the night. I believe she was really talking to someone.

But I still don't know what to believe on all this paranormal stuff. I wont ever know unless something happens to me.
Well if you believe in ghosts and stuff, you could say that as we grow up, we get science drilled more and more into our heads, so we can't see any paranormal stuff.
..and even if we did, we'd dismiss it with some scientific explanation.

Or, younger children just imagine that sort of stuff, and we lose our imagination as we get older.

Edit: To the OP: Is Paranormal Activity a closet scare movie, or more like the Blair Witch Project?

i USED TO LIVE IN A VERY HISPANIC NEIGHBORHOOD.
I attributed the feelings of being unwelcome to the fact that I was a gringo living in a barrio. I remember I would wake up at night and it felt like somebody was sitting on the small of my back. I began to suffer chronic back pain.
Then one day ( it was a small one bedroom studio apartment ) I was there alone except for my German Shepherd. I had came in, sat my keys on the counter and started doing dishes. Then I heard a jingling sound and I turned around and my keys were across the room on the floor.
No big deal, says I, maybe I put them there.

Then a few days later I am there watching television and the whole t.v stand, VCR and television goes crashing over.
No big deal, says I. Maybe there was an Earthquake.

Then, I was sitting there alone, feeling blue staring at my tennis shoe and it rolled over twice across the floor.
No big deal, says I. I was drunk and maybe imagined it.

Then I hooked up with a guitarist and w started practicing in my pad. He got freaked out and said he saw the outline of a man in smoke standing outside the room.

mkay, starting to get strange.

The one night I could feel a strong presence in the room. It felt...bad. I jumped up out of my chair and shouted " I command thee, get behind me Satan! This is my house, get the fuck out of here. "

Things got mellow but then the 73 year old land lady started hitting on me. It was just too weird so I moved out.

Several months later she was beaten almost to death by her daughter in the room I had been staying in.

When I was a kid, back in Spain, I lived in this house that had a direct stairway to the garage. Basically, it was like a down down stairs, and it used to creep me the fuck out.

It was always dark and I couldn't see the end of the stairway.... Then I started getting these dreams... well, actually, I don't know what it was tbh. But it was this man, either with an axe or knife, slowly walking up those stairs, and smilling weirdly at me. I was always stuck to the floor at the top of the stairs, and the dream basically ends there. It used to creep me the fuck out...

Thing was, I put it aside as a dream, but one day, I was at the table with my parents and I asked them about it. It felt real, so I thought I would give it a shot..... Their reaction?

They went silent, looked at each other in the weirdest of ways and changed the subject.... To this day I'm still confused as to whether it was all real or not.

Right so this shit is finally being hyped in the UK and I'm thinking of watching it.

But I quite enjoy being able to sleep.

I've seen most of the new horror movies in the last 20 years and with the exception of the japanese Ring I have yet to actually be scared by any of them.

So anyone who's seen it can comment on how I might find this?
